Kumon, A Global Leader In Private Education, Opens In Royal Palm Beach – Town-Crier

Kumon of Royal Palm Beach celebrated its official grand opening in November. There was a fantastic show of support, as many local parents previously had to drive to neighboring centers to get the benefits of Kumon’s outstanding enrichment program for math and reading.
One of the most sought-after tutoring centers, Kumon arrives in Royal Palm Beach in time to help fill the ongoing education gap caused by the pandemic.
“It’s hard to believe, but the effects of the pandemic are still revealing themselves. One of our greatest challenges is helping students who started their education or learned key foundational skills during that time. Third graders, in particular, highlight the lasting impact and the work still ahead,” instructor Stacey Morel said.
Kumon is the world’s largest afterschool enrichment program. The Kumon method goes beyond traditional tutoring by unlocking students’ full-potential by starting at and building upon their “just-right” level of learning.
The RPB center uses the latest technology called Kumon Connect, which is a tablet-based system that allows instructors to observe, and course correct in real time. Students gain limitless academic independence and confidence, along with sharpened study skills. Through daily study and mastery of worksheets, many Kumon students progress to studying years beyond grade level.
Kumon of Royal Palm Beach is located at 1161 Royal Palm Beach Blvd. For more info., visit www.kumon.com/royal-palm-beach.

Hearing Loss, Asthma Won't Disqualify Air Force and Space Force Recruits Under New Policy – Military.com

Department of the Air Force recruiters will now offer waivers for future airmen and Space Force Guardians with certain diagnoses of asthma, hearing loss and food allergies, a major policy change that could open up service to more civilians.
The change, announced publicly this week, is expected to open up service to around 600 new applicants each year, the Department of the Air Force said in a news release.
“We are constantly evaluating how we can bring in the best talent while ensuring our members can serve effectively and safely,” Brig. Gen. Christopher Amrhein, the commander of the Air Force Ascensions Center, said in the release. “By expanding waiver criteria for manageable health conditions, we can access a wider pool of qualified applicants without compromising mission readiness.”

The new waivers come as the Air Force managed to scrape by its active-duty recruiting goals, in large part due to policy changes for recruits ranging from allowing higher percentages of body fat to permitting certain tattoo sizes.
Under the prior policy, all cases of asthma — no matter the severity — were disqualifying conditions for service, Col. David Gregory, director of the Accession Medical Waiver division at the Air Force Ascensions Center, said in the news release.
Now, applicants with diagnosed asthma can join. “provided they do not require daily preventive medication, and their rescue inhaler use is kept to a minimum,” the service explained.
In addition to waivers for asthma, the service will now start waiving some circumstances of hearing loss. If one ear has “moderate hearing impairment” and the other ear “meets the standards of mild hearing impairment,” a waiver can be considered, the Air Force said in the release.
Applicants with diagnosed food allergies will also now be considered for a waiver, “provided there has been no anaphylaxis or serious systemic reaction,” the service said.
Retired Chief Master Sgt. Eric Benken, the Air Force’s top enlisted leader from 1996 to 1999 under former President Bill Clinton’s Department of Defense, told Military.com in an interview Thursday that the changes were “long overdue.”
“I trust the medical community of the Air Force to know when someone is deployable, when they’re not deployable,” Benken told Military.com. “I always felt that, in some cases, it was far too restrictive.”
These new waiver changes followed the Department of the Air Force missing its recruiting goal in 2023, by 10%, for the first time since 1999.
In 2024, several policy changes led the way for the service to hit its active-duty goals, barely skating by with 39 extra enlisted recruits to hit its benchmark of 27,100 new service members.
Increasing the Department of the Air Force’s body fat composition requirement up to 26% for men and 36% for women brought in a staggering 5,196 new recruits across the Air Force, Space Force, Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard, Military.com previously reported.

How Long Will US Energy Sector, And Government, Survive A High Dollar – Forbes

WILLISTON, ND – JULY 23: Scott Berreth, a derrick hand for Raven Drilling, drills for oil in the … [+] Bakken shale formation on July 23, 2013 outside Watford City, North Dakota. (Photo by Andrew Burton/Getty Images)
Major US stakeholders historically loved a strong dollar. Consumers, whether in households or corporations, have arguably been the most prominent voice in US politics for the last few decades. These entities loved a high dollar because it meant major inputs such as energy, mainly from other parts of the world until recently, were cheaper. The other major actor, the government, was fine with a strong US dollar as it was easier to finance everything, including purchases and borrowing. However, both these trends have started to reverse.
Global reserve status, and a strong and stable dollar, has historically meant that it is easier and cheaper for the United States to borrow vs other countries. If you are a foreign country or corporation, you likely require a higher interest rate from countries where you are worried about the currency collapsing. You can hedge it but there is a cost to that, meaning a higher return is required. As a result, governments with stronger currencies find themselves with lower financing costs. This is one of the many reasons that the United States was able to run a deficit decade after decade as the world accumulated bonds. The benefit from a strong currency is starting to change, though, as foreign countries are the largest holders of government bonds, and these same countries are now struggling with the high dollar. This results in less demand for US treasuries at a time when the US desperately needs more buyers.
Interest payments account for over half of the federal deficit in the US, and more bonds need to be sold regularly to finance the growing debt. The problem is that the US dollar has become so strong that foreign governments are being forced to sell their bonds, a US dollar-denominated asset, to meet their dollar obligations as their currencies weaken. Some are even selling bonds to support their currencies. This means less demand for US treasuries; less demand at each treasury auction puts upward pressure on rates. A higher rate means that the US deficit, already over a trillion, increases because the interest on new debt is more expensive. This vicious cycle has already begun; the US can’t risk a scenario where interest payments are rapidly accelerating into a growing deficit. China, Japan, and the UK were significant sellers of treasuries in 2024 as their currencies weakened. For a government already watching interest payments squeeze out critical services, a weaker US dollar, and therefore less interest rate pressure, would be welcome in 2025.
A strong dollar got no complaints from voters and politicians when it made everyone’s energy cheaper. That dynamic is also changing, though. US shale has been the primary source of global supply growth over the last few years, helping lower inflationary energy prices. It’s arguably the only supply source that can contribute meaningfully going forward, and the supply growth contributions from Brazil, Canada, and OPEC are much smaller. With oil in the $70s, though, growth in the US has explicitly slowed, with US shale showing a negligible year-over-year increase in production. Part of this is due to a high US dollar. These companies pay their costs in US dollars. Therefore, they are more susceptible to the high US dollar than most peer countries, such as Brazil. These countries are seeing the price they realize for their oil steadily increase domestically, making it easier for them to grow while US growth stagnates. A high US dollar also hurts emerging markets’ oil demand, putting a ceiling on prices and further capping US growth.
These longer-term structural shifts are coming at a time when Trump’s pick for Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, is focused on growing out of the US debt. Increased domestic oil production has been floated as a natural path to achieve this. This is because it creates domestic jobs and growth, while cheap energy from the increased supply lowers rates. All these things make it easier to service the deficit, but they are made more challenging with a strong US dollar. A change in preference towards a weaker dollar would be a new tailwind for commodities and emerging markets, one they haven’t had in a while.

Crypto Trader Issues Bitcoin Alert, Says BTC Could Drop Sharply to $70,085 if Critical Support Level Crumbles – The Daily Hodl

A popular crypto analyst is issuing a warning that Bitcoin could suddenly collapse if BTC loses a key support level.
Crypto trader Ali Martinez tells his 104,000 followers on the social media platform X that Bitcoin could plummet nearly 27% from its current value if it fails to remain trading above $93,806.

The crypto analyst uses the Unspent Transaction Output (UTXO) Realized Price Distribution (URPD) model to determine the key support levels. UTXO keeps track of the number of existing coins that last moved within a given price range.
“From an on-chain perspective, a Bitcoin price correction to $70,000 is possible, understanding that below $93,806, it is pretty much open air all the way down to $70,085.”
The analyst believes some investors are suddenly preparing for a bearish trend by sending their BTC to exchanges for possible selling.
“Some savvy investors appear to be aware of such a bearish scenario, and they have sent over 33,000 Bitcoin to exchanges over the past week, valued at more than $3.23 billion!”
He also says other investors are already selling ahead of a possible collapse.
“Others are also booking profits. For instance, on December 23rd alone, more than $7.17 billion in Bitcoin profits were realized.”
He says bearish sentiment is further evident from a more than 13% decline in the number of traders betting on Bitcoin rallying using the top crypto exchange Binance.
“Moreover, the percentage of traders on Binance with open Bitcoin long positions recently dropped from 66.73% to 53.60%.”
For the bearish outlook to flip bullish, the analyst says Bitcoin needs to convincingly reclaim $100,000 as support on the daily chart based on the In/Out of the Money Around Price (IOMAP) metric.
The IOMAP classifies crypto addresses as either profiting, breaking even or losing money to determine support and resistance levels.
“Bitcoin recently broke below one of its most significant support zones at $97,300. So, for the bearish outlook to be invalidated, BTC must reclaim this critical area of support and, more importantly, sustain a daily close above $100,000!”
However, the analyst says a reignited Bitcoin rally could send the flagship crypto asset to $168,500 based on the Mayer Multiple, an oscillator that uses several ratios between price and the 200-day moving average.
“If Bitcoin can sustain a daily close above $100,000, we could be looking at a new leg up toward $168,500.”
Bitcoin is trading for $95,855 at time of writing, down 2.3% in the last 24 hours.

The transition from one year to the next is often marked by the singing of “Auld Lang Syne,” a Scottish folk song whose title roughly translates to “days gone by,” according to Encyclopedia Britannica and History.com.
The tradition of New Year’s resolutions dates back 8,000 years to ancient Babylonians, who made promises to return borrowed items and repay debts at the beginning of the new year, which was in mid-March when they planted their crops.
According to legend, if people kept their word, the pagan gods would grant them favor in the coming year. However, if they broke their promises, they would lose favor with the gods.
Many secular New Year’s resolutions focus on imagining new, improved versions of ourselves.
The failure rate of New Year’s resolutions is about 80 percent, according to U.S. News & World Report. There are many reasons, but a big one is they’re made out of remorse — for gaining weight, for example — and aren’t accompanied by a shift in attitude or a plan for coping with the stress and discomfort that comes with changing a habit or condition.
