If President-elect Donald Trump looks out his windows at Mar-a-Lago today, he’ll see a mobile message from PETA urging him to end the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) annual waste of billions of tax dollars on cruel and archaic experiments on animals.
PETA’s mobile billboard reads: “President Trump: NIH Doesn’t Give a Rat’s A** About Waste. Cut $23 Billion!” and will be driven on S. Ocean Blvd., bordering Mar-a-Lago, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, December 20.
“Ending the waste at NIH starts with slamming the brakes on the runaway gravy train that funnels billions of taxpayer dollars each year into cruel, worthless experiments on animals,” says PETA Senior Vice President Kathy Guillermo. “PETA urges President-elect Trump to redirect taxpayer funds to modern research that will both spare animals and speed up treatments and cures for humans.”
NIH squanders nearly half its annual budget on projects involving animal experiments, even though 90% of basic research, most of which involves animals, fails to lead to effective treatments for humans, and 95% of new drugs that test safe and effective in animals fail in human trials. PETA scientists’ Research Modernization Deal provides evidence of the failure of studies on animals and lays out a strategy for transitioning to more cutting-edge science.
Pointless studies funded by NIH include forcing monkeys to stare at photos of candidates to see if they can predict winners, ripping infant monkeys from their mothers and forcing them to wear strobe-effect goggles for 12 hours a day, and relentlessly shocking the feet of mice, supposedly to cause panic attacks.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to experiment on”—points out thatEvery Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow PETA on X, Facebook, or Instagram.

“Almost all of us grew up eating meat, wearing leather, and going to circuses and zoos. We never considered the impact of these actions on the animals involved. For whatever reason, you are now asking the question: Why should animals have rights?”

Nikki Glaser Closed 'Thursday Night Football' With Some On-Field Comedy – Sports Illustrated
Doing comedy on a remarkably quick turnaround after a Thursday Night Football game finishes is a tall order. One might wonder why anyone would ever order that at all. But Amazon tasked comedian Nikki Glaser with doing just that on its postgame show this year. The first foray was not well received yet she went back out there and put out some solid tape. Glaser offered her final "Late Hits" piece after the Los Angeles Chargers overcame the Denver Broncos as people milled about on the field and got out of there having landed several solid jokes.
Glaser called the matchup "Bo Nix versus botox," ribbed Amazon Prime original series for not being able to secure A-list casting, opined on Justin Herbert's mustache, and delivered quite a shot on Mr. Beast.
It cannot be overstated how difficult of a venue this is to get laughs. To the point where a person simply has to respect the effort. It would also be unintentionally hilarious if other networks tried this with regular analysts—and not comedians—just to prove how haywire it could all go.
Imagine Jason Garrett doing this. Tell us you wouldn't want to see that.

Two early Unreal games are now permanently free via the Internet Archive – Engadget
The Internet Archive is one of the very best things on the web, so it’s great that the repository is up and running again after recent DDoS attacks. It hosts more than old versions of web pages, though. It hosts a trove of video (I’m forever thankful to whoever uploaded the wonderful Lucha Underground in its entirety), software, text, audio recordings and games as well. There have been two notable additions on the latter front in the form of Unreal and Unreal Tournament, seemingly with the blessing of Epic Games.
You can now freely download disc images of the arena shooters from the Internet Archive via direct links for Unreal and Unreal Tournament. Alternatively, as Game Developer points out, the site OldUnreal offers installers for Unreal and UT, both of which pull the disc images from the Internet Archive and include the latest community-created patches.
The installers are Windows-only for now, but the OldUnreal team is working on Linux and macOS versions. You’ll also need to put in a little extra effort to get online with the games and savor their true multiplayer flavors. Heck, you might still even be able to join an Unreal clan.
Epic delisted the Unreal games from Steam and shut down their servers quite some time ago, so this is a nice boost for game preservation. It comes on the heels of GOG introducing a new label for older titles that the platform is maintaining for current hardware. Unreal was one of the first PC games I played as a kid, so it’s neat to learn that it will be available in perpetuity through the Internet Archive.
