It’s an art form that can take years to perfect. And though the great comedians make it look easy, being on the stage can be anything but easy.
Taylor Dunn has been in the Navy for over ten years. But before he committed to his country he committed to his comedy.
“As soon as I got out of high school, I had like graduated for about a month is when I gave it a try for the first time,” said stand-up comedian Taylor Dunn.
He quickly discovered that even though everyone believes he’s funny off-stage, that doesn’t always transfer to the stage.
“I’ve had some jokes absolutely murder in here, and you’re like oh man, that was a great joke, and then I’ll tell it again in front of a different crowd and it falls flat,” said Dunn.
Over the years he’s perfected his craft opening for some of the biggest names in comedy.
So, I’ve worked with David Lucas, I’ve worked with Casey Rocket, and William Montgomery. I’ve worked with George Wallace, back in December, and that one, I was pretty intimidated because he’s a legend.
This Sunday Taylor will get to merge his two passions hosting a show he calls “Bricktown’s Got Your Six” a military appreciation show.
“I think it’s the first time that Bricktown has done a show like this where the military is the focal point,” said Dunn.
The show is open to everyone and free for active military as well as veterans.
“Bricktown Comedy Club has been gracious enough to allow us to have a percentage of the ticket sales, the food sales, and the drink sales for that evening,” said Dunn.
That money will go towards the command’s Morale, wellness and recreation fund.
“Morale is a huge thing for me, I love to see sailors and military personnel, in general, enjoying what they are doing,” said Dunn.
