BATESVILLE, Ark. (KAIT) – Lyon College is one step closer to playing football games on home turf after they broke ground on their new stadium on Friday, Jan. 31.
The Scots revitalized the football program in 2015 and now they will finally be able to play games on campus.
Dr. Melissa Taverner, the President of Lyon College, said this has always been a dream since football came back.
“We’ve known that since we brought back football ten years ago that we wanted to at some point play on campus because that’s so important to the community,” Dr. Taverner said.
Head Football coach, Chris Douglas, expressed his excitement.
“I mean this is incredible. The generosity, the trust, and the faith that this community has shown in us is just incredible and it almost leaves me speechless,” Douglas said.
Since 2015, the Scots have traveled to Batesville High School to play their home games.
“For these guys that have been with us for four years and even the some of the alumni that have shown up here today, it’s not a long drive but you have to drive over to play a home game so when we’re able to tee it off here, the goosebumps are already starting to pop up,” Douglas said.
Athletic Director, Kevin Jenkins, said they want to create a great environment.
“We are able to provide a great experience for the student-athletes that we are able to recruit here,” Jenkins said, “It’s great for our institution. Just looking forward to a lot of fun fall Saturday afternoons in Batesville on our own campus playing small college football.”
Lyon College will hold a ribbon cutting on Sept. 13 for the new stadium.
That same day will also be the first-ever home game on campus for the Scots.

The Japanese television special “Oh My God! My Own God” aired on February 1, 2025, capturing the essence of the mysterious and enchanting experiences tied to spirituality in Izumo, known as the land of the gods. Hosted by talents Hiroshi and Koizumi Koitaro, the program emphasizes not only the region’s cultural depth but also its unique traditions deeply rooted in spirituality.
The episode began by introducing “Izumo no Haha,” or the “Mother of Izumo,” who has gained popularity for her fortune-telling prowess over her 27-year career. Viewers were entertained as she took center stage to predict the fortunes awaiting Koitaro for the coming year, 2025. “Is Koitaro going to have good fortunes for 2025?” Hiroshi remarked with interest, setting the tone for the mystical experience.
The television crew navigated through the vibrant streets near the Izumo Taisha shrine, where colorful banners adorned shops advertising the mother’s fortune-telling. Set against the backdrop of one of Japan’s most revered shrines, the segment exuded both charm and intrigue. Fans from both near and far flock to this hallowed ground, eager to secure blessings and insights.
Following the fortune-telling session, the show delved deeply throughout Izumo’s enchanting culture, showcasing the shimenawa-making process – sacred straw ropes associated with Japanese deities. Teaming up with local craftspeople, Koitaro participated actively, embodying the spirit of collaboration emphasized within the community. Nasu Hisashi, the director of the Grand Shimenawa Creative Center, put it succinctly: “Shimenawa is not something one can make alone; it requires strong collective efforts.” His words encapsulated the ethos of teamwork and dedication prevalent within this respected craft.
Koitaro’s thrilling participation may have surprised viewers, as he exclaimed, “Once you twist the straw, it feels like it becomes alive!” Through his hands-on involvement, he made the ancient art accessible and relatable, connecting traditional practices to modern audiences.
The episode also featured tantalizing segments highlighting local delicacies, including the famed shijimi ramen—a specialty cherished by both residents and visitors. This beloved dish, made with locally sourced clams, boasts savory broth produced from painstakingly chosen ingredients, and quickly became the highlight for most viewers. The ramen shop, which opened its doors in 2011, now shows no signs of slowing down, attracting long queues of hungry customers eager to experience its delicious flavors.
Describing the ramen, locals boasted, “Many Izumo residents revere our shijimi ramen as divine!” Their pride echoed the affection for their local cuisine, encouraging viewers to appreciate not just the food but the community as well. This segment tied neatly back to the overarching theme of celebration and reverence for the local culture.
Izumo’s significance was illustrated throughout as both hosts encouraged the audience to engage with not only the regional cuisine but also with traditions interwoven across centuries. Viewers couldn’t help but feel the warmth and hospitality radiated by locals who welcomed Koitaro and the cameras.
This installment of “Oh My God!” is part of the show’s continued exploration of spirituality, the divine, and the deeply human interest factors surrounding belief systems. Each week, new guests and experiences expose audiences to various aspects of the regional culture and spirituality. The special culminated with viewers encouraged to experience the aforementioned fortune-telling and visit the stunning Izumo Taisha shrine themselves.
Through its fascinating and insightful segments, the program remains relatable and captivating, continuing its tradition of combining entertainment with education. The episode aired as part of Japan’s nationwide broadcast on Nippon Television and can also be rewatched through the online platform TVer.
The appreciation for Izumo as the land of gods was more than just narrative; it was felt through the collective efforts of communities upholding their traditions and sharing them with the world. Special mentions were made about how these rituals and beliefs encourage visitors to explore and appreciate what the land offers.
Overall, “Oh My God! My Own God” invigorates interest and curiosity about Japan’s rich tradition, challenging audiences to embrace spirituality and its breathtaking beauty. The commitment of local artisans, the joyfulness of the participants, and the warmth of the Izumo residents all fuse together, creating an event that’s not easily forgotten.
