Candies Recalled In Missouri Over 'Life-Threatening' Health Risk – iHeartRadio

By Sarah Tate
December 27, 2024
As revelers continue to celebrate the holiday season, many dessert lovers may be looking to dig in to any new sweet treats they may have received. However, they may want to take notice of a new recall affecting candies sold around the country, including in Missouri.
Gardners Candies has recalled its 1.25 ounce packages of Cappuccino Meltaway Bars (lot number 082725, expiration date 08/27/25) over a potentially dangerous health risk as they may contain undeclared cashews, which could cause a "serious or life-threatening" reaction for consumers with an allergy or severe sensitivity to tree nuts, according to a recall notice shared December 27 by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration.
The recall also affects the Gardners Meltaway Treat Box in lot numbers 101625 and 112525 as the product contains two of the cappuccino bars alongside other flavors in the holiday-themed box.
The affected products were distributed in retail stores nationwide as well as through mail orders on the Gardners Candies website starting September 1, 2024.
According to the company announcement, the recall was initiated after it was discovered the product didn’t list tree nuts as a potential allergen and an investigation showed that the error occurred due to a "temporary breakdown in the company’s production and packaging processes."
There have been no illnesses reported as of time of the recall. For more information about the recall or to see product images, visit fda.gov.

New Nevada Laws – KOLO

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – Drones can be used to take stunning pictures of an area. Their perspective cannot be matched.
But beginning the first of the year, Nevada state government and local law enforcement cannot purchase a drone which is not approved by the federal government. The law also deals with drones used to check building compliance and fire codes. Images captured cannot be used in criminal or civil litigation to prove reasonable suspicion or probable cause.

In what some are calling common sense–caregivers who provide assistance to a patient with dementia may qualify for Medicaid compensation under a new law. The law allows for the Medicaid recipient to choose the caregiver who will provide at home personal care services. Compensation will go to that caregiver through Medicaid funds. The caregiver must become an employee of an agency to administer care and take special training to qualify.
And training may be the answer for people caught driving a motorcycle without a license. They may be able to avoid fines and penalties. Beginning January 2025, those cited for the offense can take and pass a motorcycle safety course within nine months of the offense and fines will be lifted by the court.
And three new laws which go into effect January 1, 2025 are courtesy Nevada voters.
Diapers sold here in Nevada will be exempt from state taxes beginning January 1, 2025. Question 5 was approved by Nevada voters with 68% of the vote. It’s estimated the average family spends a $1,000 to $1200 dollars on diapers a year. The tax paid is approximately $84 dollars. Beginning January 1, 2025, that tax will no longer be paid.
Nevada voters approved Question 4 by a little more than 60%. That means slavery or involuntary servitude cannot be used as a punishment for a crime here in Nevada. Such actions were part of the Nevada Constitution. But with approval by Nevada voters such language has been removed from the state Constitution.
On that same ballot 65% of Nevada voters gave thumbs up to Question 2. It aimed to revise Nevada’s Constitution by removing public entities language where the agency helps those with mental illness, blindness, and deafness. With approval by the voters, words like insane, blind, deaf and dumb, will be replaced with significant mental illness, persons who are blind or visually impaired, persons who are deaf or hard of hearing, and persons with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
Those with intellectual or developmental disabilities will now be paid minimum wage in Nevada beginning January 1, 2025. The new law prevents an employer who provides a job or day training from entering a contract with a person with intellectual or developmental disabilities where the wage is less than the state minimum.

The Massachusetts-based comedian goes from joking about the shared joys of surviving downtown traffic, to as one theater owner put it:
“He goes, ‘Man, I think it’s awesome how you just go out there and you just bring these guys into your world for 45 minutes and let em’ dance around and just give it to them and you get away with it man, it’s creative, they had a ball,’ so I mean, I thought when he said that to me that was kind of funny the way he described it, because that’s kinda what I do.”
With the hope that these glimpses into his world, can help you escape from your own for a while.
“I want them to look back at the show and be like, ‘you know what, for that 45 minutes that guy just let me forget about life in general and stress, and I just laughed my butt off for 45 minutes.’”

‘Circuit Superstars’ Is My New Racing Muse and I Can’t Put It Down – VICE

Newsletters
While it’s isometric gameplay reminded me of ‘Super Off-Road’ from the arcade, ‘Circuit Superstars’ won me over in many more ways.
By
Racing games always have the best things going for them. Games like Gran Turismo 7 and Forza Motorsport are some of the most impressive-looking games of the current generation. But sometimes, simplicity is more important than having the best ray tracing on your console of choice. Circuit Superstars won me over by not only offering a unique art style and a great take on racing but by offering one of the most comprehensive racing packages on the market at a lower cost than most AAA games.
In the most Wisconsin thing I could ever say, the Super Off-Road arcade cabinet sang to me like a muse. Waiting for a fish fry on a Friday night in the dive bar that we would visit with my grandparents, its multi-colored wheel selection and, at the time, flashy graphics always called my name. I was hardly tall enough to even use the pedal and the wheel at the same time, but I’ll be damned if that game didn’t dominate my Friday nights.
I’ve been waiting for what feels like a lifetime to find a game that scratches the same type of itch. And honestly? Circuit Superstars is the closest I’ve ever found. Flashy graphics? Check. Great arcade-simulation gameplay? Double check. A great selection of different vehicles, including outdoor races in the same type of trucks as Super Off-Road? Triple. Check. Baby.
There is just something so satisfying about nailing a perfect run in Circuit Superstars. While I could only dream of official wheel support to relive my childhood memories of Super Off-Road, some workarounds could let me finally experience that nostalgic bliss once again. Don’t let the cutesy art style fool you; Circuit Superstars has a surprisingly high skill ceiling. It’s a great combination of arcade/simulation racing that never fails to put a smile on my face when I finally cross the finish line.
I was also genuinely impressed with the sheer amount of content available here. Beyond the standard races, I could partake in a massive career mode. Starting in an adorable little car that looks suspiciously like a Fiat 500, I had to scratch and crash my way to the front every time. I’m not too terribly far into the career mode yet, but I’m very excited to finally get to the Rallycross and Dirt Trucks events.
When you finally finished gathering all of the cars in My First Gran Turismo, I implore you to give Circuit Superstars a try. You may find out that it’s exactly your cup of tea.

He is the perfect size — just under 25 pounds right now — so he fits in just about any size home. Painter is always ready for an adventure and can’t wait to find a family who’ll help him learn all the puppy skills he needs.

His purr is so soothing, you’ll probably find yourself relaxing while he turns your lap into his personal throne.

New York state government to monitor its use of AI under a new law – ABC News

New York state government agencies will have to conduct reviews and publish reports that detail how they’re using artificial intelligence software, under a new law signed by Gov. Kathy Hochul
ALBANY, N.Y. — New York state government agencies will have to conduct reviews and publish reports that detail how they're using artificial intelligence software, under a new law signed by Gov. Kathy Hochul.
Hochul, a Democrat, signed the bill last week after it was passed by state lawmakers earlier this year.
The law requires state agencies to perform assessments of any software that uses algorithms, computational models or AI techniques, and then submit those reviews to the governor and top legislative leaders along with posting them online.
It also bars the use of AI in certain situations, such as an automated decision on whether someone receives unemployment benefits or child care assistance, unless the system is being consistently monitored by a human.
State workers would also be shielded from having their hours or job duties limited because of AI under the law.
State Sen. Kristen Gonzalez, a Democrat who sponsored the bill, called the law an important step in setting up some guardrails in how the emerging technology is used in state government.
