Hugging Face Released Moonshine Web: A Browser-Based Real-Time, Privacy-Focused Speech Recognition Running Locally – MarkTechPost

The advent of automatic speech recognition (ASR) technologies has changed the way individuals interact with digital devices. Despite their capabilities, these systems often demand significant computational power and resources. This makes them inaccessible to users with constrained devices or limited access to cloud-based solutions. This disparity underscores an urgent need for innovations that deliver high-quality ASR without heavy reliance on computational resources or external infrastructures. This challenge has become even more pronounced in real-time processing scenarios where speed and accuracy are paramount. Existing ASR tools often falter when expected to function seamlessly on low-power devices or within environments with limited internet connectivity. Addressing these gaps necessitates solutions that provide open-source access to state-of-the-art machine learning models.
Moonshine Web, developed by Hugging Face, is a robust response to these challenges. As a lightweight yet powerful ASR solution, Moonshine Web stands out for its ability to run entirely within a web browser, leveraging React, Vite, and the cutting-edge Transformers.js library. This innovation ensures that users can directly experience fast and accurate ASR on their devices without depending on high-performance hardware or cloud services. The center of Moonshine Web lies in the Moonshine Base model, a highly optimized speech-to-text system designed for efficiency and performance. This model achieves remarkable results by utilizing WebGPU acceleration for superior computational speeds while offering WASM as a fallback for devices lacking WebGPU support. Such adaptability makes Moonshine Web accessible to a broader audience, including those using resource-constrained devices.
Moonshine Web’s user-friendly design extends to its deployment process. Hugging Face ensures developers and enthusiasts can quickly set up the application by providing an open-source repository. Below are the steps and code required for deployment:
1. Clone the Repository
2. Navigate to the Project Directory
3. Install Dependencies
4. Run the Development Server
The application should now be running locally. Open your browser and go to ‘http://localhost:5173’ to see it in action.
In conclusion, the development of Moonshine Web also highlights the importance of community engagement in advancing technological solutions. Incorporating an audio visualizer, adapted from an open-source tutorial by Wael Yasmina, exemplifies the collaborative ethos driving this project. Such contributions enhance the application’s functionality and inspire further innovations within the open-source ecosystem. Bridging the gap between resource-intensive models and user-friendly deployment paves the way for more inclusive and equitable access to cutting-edge technologies.

KS Global Pharma Orlicz 1924 Suchedniów Defies the Odds – ETTU

A.S Pontoise-Cergy TT secured a 3-2 victory over KS Global Pharma Orlicz 1924 Suchedniów at home, but the result was insufficient for the French team to secure a spot in the Champions League Men quarterfinals. In the first leg, the Polish club had recorded a 3-1 victory, giving them the edge on aggregate.
Marcos FREITAS, absent from the French lineup last week, delivered an impressive performance, winning both his matches against Robert FLORAS and Deni KOZUL. Izaac QUEK YONG also claimed a victory over FLORAS. However, it was the nail-biting wins by KOZUL over QUEK YONG and Mateusz ZALEWSKI over Liam PITCHFORD that sealed Suchedniów’s advancement to the round of 8.
“It was a great match. We managed to win two points even without Kazuhiro YOSHIMURA, who led us to victory last time with two wins. We came mentally prepared, knowing everything depended on us. I’m thrilled to have avenged my 2-3 loss last week with a 3-2 win over Izaac QUEK YONG. In the decisive game, I had a 4-0 lead, which gave me the advantage I needed. Robert also played very well against Marcos in the opening match—it was close until the fifth game. But the most important win was Mateusz’s victory over Liam PITCHFORD—Liam was a clear favorite. This is a great Christmas gift. We’ll give our best to continue and aim for the Final 4,” said Deni KOZUL.
Previously, Polish team had to go through the group stage to earn their spot in the competition.

Researchers Exploit Reflected Input with HTTP Range Header To Bypass Browser Restriction – CybersecurityNews

Security researchers have uncovered a technique that takes previously unexploitable reflected input vulnerabilities and turns them into fully functional attacks through clever use of HTTP Range headers.
The findings highlight a new potential threat vector for web applications once considered relatively secure.
Reflected input vulnerabilities have long been a concern, but they are often difficult to exploit due to limitations imposed by the context in which the malicious input appears.
For example, if an attacker injects code into a quoted HTML attribute, the browser’s rendering rules would prevent the attack from functioning properly.
However, a newly identified attack vector leverages the HTTP Range header to bypass such restrictions, potentially making these vulnerabilities far more exploitable.
The discovery came as part of extensive research into advanced techniques for detecting HTTP request smuggling and header injection vulnerabilities.
These vulnerabilities are already concerning due to their ability to bypass browser-imposed content restrictions such as Cross-Origin Resource Sharing (CORS) policies.
Researchers have now demonstrated how the Range header can be used to take unexploitable scripts and deliver them in fully functional form to victims.
The technique relies on two critical steps. First, an attacker finds a web endpoint that reflects user input back into the HTTP response but in a relatively “unexploitable” manner such as inside HTML attributes, where the malicious code would normally be neutralized.
Second, the attacker determines whether the same endpoint responds to the Range HTTP header, which is commonly used to request only partial content from a resource.
When combined, these two conditions pave the way for a creative exploit. The attacker sends a crafted request with the following elements:
For example, a request to a vulnerable endpoint might look like this:
If the server responds with a 206 Partial Content status code, along with the isolated malicious payload, the reflected code becomes fully functional. The victim’s browser executes the payload, typically enabling cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks.
In an illustrative example, a request that injects the payload (console.log('XSS')); into an endpoint of a website could result in a response like the following:
Browsers, which readily accept such unsolicited partial content responses, will then execute the isolated script. This creates an attack vector that bypasses common defenses typically applied to reflected input vulnerabilities.
From a defensive standpoint, this attack is particularly challenging to mitigate. Both prerequisites for the attack reflected input and support for the Range header—are relatively benign in isolation and are often overlooked in security assessments.
Reflected inputs that seem unexploitable and endpoints supporting partial content responses rarely warrant even a low-severity note in penetration testing reports.
The key to defending against this threat lies in understanding how seemingly minor issues can be combined into a functional exploit chain.
Security teams must monitor the interaction between reflected input vectors and the functionality of HTTP headers like Range.
Some potential mitigation strategies include:
This novel use of the HTTP Range header demonstrates how attackers can creatively combine seemingly harmless vulnerabilities into devastating exploits.
It reminds web developers and security professionals of the importance of viewing system behavior holistically, rather than treating vulnerabilities as discrete, unrelated issues.
For further technical information on the Range header and its behavior, developers can refer to the MDN Web Docs.
Researchers behind this finding credit their success to persistent curiosity and a refusal to ignore “intrusive thoughts” about potential exploits.
This discovery once again underscores the importance of out-of-the-box thinking in cybersecurity research. While no real-world incidents have been reported so far, the technique serves as a wake-up call for more robust web application defense strategies.

New York sports world reacts to death of former Yankee and Met Rickey Henderson – NorthJersey.com

Hall of Famer and all-time MLB stolen base leader Rickey Henderson died Friday night at age 65, his family announced Saturday.
Henderson swiped 1,406 bases during his 25-season career that spanned four decades. He played for nine teams after beginning his MLB career in 1979 with the Oakland A’s. Henderson played for both New York teams, the Yankees (1985-89) and the Mets (1999-2000).
The New York sports world paused on Saturday to remember their friend and teammate, posting on social media:
Hall of Famer and former Yankee teammate Dave Winfield wrote on Instagram: “I still cannot believe I’ve lost one of my favorite teammates and great friend Rickey Henderson. Rest in peace.
“It was an honor to be in the same uniform with Rickey Henderson. He was the most entertaining and dynamic player I ever saw. R.I.P. Rickey U were the Greatest!” Former Mets Manager Bobby Valentine wrote on social media.
Former Mets teammate and fellow Hall of Famer Mike Piazza posted on X, formerly Twitter: “Rickey Henderson was a dream to hit behind as teammate and a nightmare for a catcher as an opponent. He was one of the most generous, hysterical and gracious human beings..He will be sorely missed..Prayers for his soul and family.”
Longtime Mets radio voice Howie Rose posted on X: “My favorite Rickey Henderson story. Remember when players wrote the uniform number of a traded or released teammate on their caps? One time, Rickey had 24 on his cap. I asked him to whom that was a tribute. He said “That’s Rickey’s number. It’s a tribute to Rickey!” RIP.”

10 Genuinely Great Hallmark Christmas Movies My Husband Enjoyed – ComicBook.com

Here’s a roundup of 10 movies the man in your life will actually enjoy at Christmas time.
By
Convincing your boyfriend, husband, or partner to watch Hallmark Christmas movies with you doesn’t have to be totally miserable. It’s easy enough to find a handful of excellent Hallmark Christmas flicks that he’ll actually enjoy. And the good news? We also know exactly where you can go to stream awesome new Hallmark Christmas movies as well, including Peacock. When it comes to men, a few things tend to catch their attention. Anything relating to sports, heroes, or sci-fi is probably your best bet. Fortunately, Christmas movies on Hallmark don’t always just focus on lovey-dovey couples falling for each other during the holiday season. They also include plots that can captivate attention from you and your male partner for the coziest date nights ever.
Tons of attention has been aimed at the Kansas City Chiefs NFL team thanks to the relationship between Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift, and some movie lovers are convinced Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story is a Hallmark Channel Christmas movie that was released in honor of the power couple. If your partner is a football fan, then this is easily a movie they would enjoy. It focuses on a woman named Alana with a family who cheers for the Kansas City Chiefs as their favorite football team. Along the way, Alana falls in love with the Director of Fan Engagement, a gent named Derrick. This movie blends light-hearted romance with endless nods to football (including some surprise cameos).
Another sports-themed pick, hockey fans on the other hand will likely gravitate toward watching Jingle Bell Run. This Hallmark Christmas movie focuses on a school teacher named Avery who’s far from adventurous. She doesn’t like putting herself out there, but when she’s thrust into a position to leave her comfort zone, she develops feelings for a former hockey player named Wes.
Avery and Wes pair up together to dominate in a Christmas-themed competition show that gives them a chance to take home an incredible grand prize. Her wittiness, intelligence, and mental brilliance meshes well with his physical strength and capabilities. Although Wes doesn’t play tons of hockey in this movie, his hockey skills certainly come into play during the competition.
If your boyfriend or husband totally respects individuals who dedicate their lives to the military, then you’re in luck with Christmas Homecoming. This Hallmark Christmas movie tells the story of a military widow who rents out an apartment space to an army captain who’s in the process of recovering from an injury he sustained in battle. Although she’s working on healing and mourning the loss of her spouse, she realizes it’s possible to find love again as she grows closer to the army captain. They link up to work on a Christmas fundraising event together and develop deeper romantic feelings for each other with each passing day.
Soccer is one of the most beloved sports globally, so the idea of attracting your boyfriend or husband to a Hallmark Christmas movie focused on soccer is a brilliant idea. After all, there’s a reason so many fans were impressed when Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney invested in Mexico, soccer club, Necaxa, which they did after investing in Wrexham’s team.
Christmas in Notting Hill tells the story of a former soccer star named Graham who refuses to make time for his love life. Since he’s focused on perfecting his craft as a soccer star, dating has always been on the back burner for him. When he goes home to Notting Hill for Christmas, he crosses paths with a women he’s attracted to named Georgia. Slowly but surely, she changes his mind about making time for romance.
Sci-fi lovers will find exactly what they’re looking for when watching Journey Back to Christmas. Do sci-fi movies like Time Cut about time travel and other mind-bending topics catch your boyfriend or husband’s attention? If so, then Journey Back to Christmas will certainly do the same.
Journey Back to Christmas focuses on a World War II-era nurse who magically transports through time to 2016. While trying to navigate through the modern world, she bumps into a man who teaches her what true love is for the first time in her life. Time travel movies like this one tend to be perfect for deep and philosophical thinkers.
Love on the Slopes is a wonderful movie to watch with your boyfriend or husband if they happen to be an extreme sports enthusiast. This movie focuses on an extreme sport enthusiast named Cole who finds love with a New York City-based journalist named Alex. She travels to Ridgeline Resort to write an article about his competition, and at first, he doesn’t feel like she belongs in such a competitive environment. As time progresses, they grow closer and realize they have far more in common than they would have guessed based on their initial introduction. This movie hones in on the fears she experiences as she witnesses the man she loves participating in extreme sports that could leave him injured.
Holiday for Heroes is an ideal movie for folks who have unwavering admiration and respect for war heroes and veterans. This Hallmark Channel Christmas movie tells the story of a woman named Audrey and a soldier named Matt who have been writing love letters back-and-forth to each other for years. Although they’ve never actually met in real life, they know for a fact that their feelings for each other are deep, true, and genuine. Eventually, they stumble upon the opportunity to meet each other face-to-face. From there, they figure out if the love they share in written words actually translates into a human connection.
Next Stop, Christmas is another sci-fi-style Hallmark Christmas movie with a plot focused on time travel. If time travel subject matter in a movie like Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is something that would captivate attention from your boyfriend or husband, then rest assured that they’ll also be interested in Next Stop, Christmas.
In this film, a woman named Angie does everything in her power to make it home to celebrate Christmas in 2021. For some strange reason, she gets dropped off by public transit in her hometown instead –– and the year rewinds back to 2011. She has to figure out how to celebrate the holidays in a time and place she hasn’t seen for a decade.
Checkin’ It Twice is a sports-centered Hallmark Christmas movie focused on a professional athlete. A hockey player named Scott catches feelings for a real estate agent named Ashley. He’s in the midst of a career crisis after learning that his team has traded him to a small town that doesn’t exactly pique his interest.
Fortunately for him, after meeting Ashley, he realizes that living in a small town might not be so bad. Ashley lives in a cozy cottage near her super-loving family members. They all make Scott feel welcome and accepted. The burn of losing out on a lavish city lifestyle slowly starts to heal as he spends more time in Ashley’s presence.
Basketball is a popular sport to watch, which is why Catch a Christmas Star is worth adding to your watchlist. The Hallmark Christmas movie tells the story of a pop star named Nikki who falls head over heels in love with a high school basketball coach named Chris.
Chris is a widower, suffering the loss of his wife, but he still remembers his high school romance with Nikki from when they were still teenagers. When Chris and Nikki reconnect years later in their adulthood, they must decide if reconciling forever is the right move or not. Chris’s basketball coach coaching career is highlighted in this movie, along with his budding love story with Nikki.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — The final buzzer sounded Saturday, the South Bay Lakers had won a game and Bronny James seemed completely at ease.
Big smile. Handshakes with everyone. Even did a little dance step as he got to the bench.
LeBron James’ oldest son made his peace long ago with the realization that he’s going to be judged differently because of who his father is. Bronny James insists that doesn’t bother him, saying Saturday at the G League Winter Showcase that he looks at the game differently — and still with some challenges — after suffering cardiac arrest on July 24, 2023.
“I’ve become resilient over these past couple of years fighting through injuries, mental illness, stuff like that,” James said. “Just, you know, coming in and working every day and staying the course.”
The mental challenge, he said, stems largely from the scare of that day 17 months ago.
“Trying to get past that,” James said. “It’s difficult, but I’m trying to work at it every day.”
He suffered cardiac arrest during a practice session at the University of Southern California and needed a procedure to fix what eventually was diagnosed as a congenital heart defect, then missed several months of basketball while recovering. The NBA cleared him to participate fully in the league back in May, and the Los Angeles Lakers — his father’s team — drafted him with the 55th overall pick in June, eventually signing him to a four-year, $7.9 million contract.
Bronny James has appeared in seven games with the NBA’s Lakers, making history by being part of the first on-court father-son duo in league history, and has spent time in the G League as well to continue his development. The Lakers have made no secret that James is a work in progress, and the 20-year-old doesn’t hide from that reality either.

“He’s got a lot of attention on him,” South Bay teammate Devonte’ Graham — a veteran of more than 300 NBA games — told ESPN in a televised postgame interview. “He knows how to deal with it. I think he’s been playing good.”
James’ final numbers Saturday: six points, seven assists, four rebounds and a steal on 3-for-7 shooting in 25 minutes in South Bay’s 120-104 victory over the Osceola Magic. The athleticism was on full display at times — he twice went into traffic for rebounds, simply going over the maze of people to emerge with the ball.
“I’m just showing up every day, trying to get better every day, trying to learn every day and playing my game every day,” James said. “And I feel like that’s what is getting me to have fun and enjoy this sport that I love every day.”
He wondered in the immediate aftermath of the heart episode if he would be able to play the game, and there were plenty of doubters — and naysayers — when he was drafted after averaging 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists in his only college season.
The noise from the outside, he said, “flies in one ear and out the other.” He is just happy to be playing, whether it’s on a makeshift court inside an Orlando convention center on a Saturday afternoon or on the bright lights of the NBA stage.
“My family, my parents, they are extremely thankful that I’m not only able to play basketball but also just walk around and speak to other people,” James said. “It’s a blessing to be able to play this sport that I love. There’s a chance I wasn’t going to be able to. So, I wake up and I’m thankful for that every day.”
