Find out who’s running in Mayoral Races throughout the Metro – WLBT

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Unofficial lists for multiple Mayoral Races have been released, and you can expect to see some new faces in new cities.
Starting with the cities that are guaranteed to have a new Mayor.
Clinton will only have William C. Purdie running.
Canton will have Daphne Johnson Sims, Tim Taylor, and Comelia Walker running as Democrats. Chip Matthews is the only Republican running. Lastly, the Independent candidates are Walter Peeples and Daniel Spivey.
Flowood will have two Republican candidates in Kathy Smith and Greg Wilcox.
For contested races, Richland Incumbent Clay Burns will go against Garsheo “Gus” Black.
Byram Incumbent Richard White will face two Democratic candidates in Gelroy Winding and Byran White.
Brandon Incumbent Butch Lee will face fellow Republican Fred Shanks.
Lastly are the unopposed races, starting with Gene McGee in Ridgeland, who has been in this role since 1989. Mary Hawkins Butler in Madison has served as mayor there since 1981, and Walter Morrison IV in Gluckstadt has served in the role since 2021.

Absentee ballots for the municipal elections will be available starting February 18. You can apply to vote absentee right now. You must be registered to vote by March 3rd to vote in your city or town’s races this year.
April 1 is Primary Election Day.
