Santa may not be the only one offering generous gifts the night of Christmas Eve.
The Mega Millions jackpot is climbing steadily toward the billion-dollar milestone ahead of tonight’s drawing, remaining the seventh-largest Mega Millions jackpot ever.
The last jackpot was won on Sept. 10. A single winner from Texas won an $800 million jackpot — which previously held the title of the seventh-largest jackpot.

With no winning ticket declared on Friday, the estimated grand prize has grown to $1 billion — getting ever closer to the uncommon billion-dollar milestone.
Regardless of whether it exceeds $1 billion, it will still be the seventh-largest Mega Millions ever and the 12th-largest U.S. jackpot in lottery history.
The drawing has an estimated $448.8 million lump-sum payment after taxes. If won, it would be the largest jackpot ever won in the month of December.
The next Mega Millions drawing is tonight (Tuesday, Dec. 24). Drawings are held at 10 p.m. CT every Tuesday and Friday.

Friday’s winning numbers were 02-20-51-56-67, Mega Ball: 19, Megaplier: 2x.
While no one hit the jackpot, five tickets matched all five white balls to win $1 million each. The winning tickets were sold in Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana (two tickets), and Pennsylvania.

To buy a ticket, you’ll have to visit your local convenience store, gas station or grocery store.
To play, you will need to pick six numbers. Five numbers will be white balls ranging from 1 to 70. The gold Mega Ball is one number between 1 and 25.
If you ask for a “Quick Pick” or an “Easy Pick,” the computer will randomly generate the numbers for you.
Players can add the “Megaplier” for $1, which can increase non-grand-prize winnings by two, three, four or five times. The Megaplier is drawn before the Mega Millions numbers on Tuesday and Friday.
