MECHANICSVILLE, VA, AUG. 13, 2025. Fans of author Heather Wood or Christian historical fiction are invited to celebrate the release of “Sowing Hope” on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Books, Beads, and More. The event, held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., offers the chance to meet Wood, purchase any of her books — including the new release — and have books signed by the author.
“Sowing Hope” is the second novel in Wood’s A Gathering of Mercies series. It features the true story of abolitionist editor Elijah Lovejoy set against a historical Christian romance between fictional characters Patrick Gallagher and Anna Markland.
Readers who enjoyed the first installment in the A Gathering of Mercies series will recognize abolition-minded Patrick Gallagher as the younger brother of Colm Gallagher, the male main character in Weaving Roots. Fans of Wood’s previous books know to expect accurate historical details, faith-based character arcs and compelling people and stories in her work.
“As an author in the Christian historical fiction genre,” Wood says, “I value telling the truth about often overlooked American history through relatable characters whose story arcs center on their faith and family relationships. I’m excited to partner with Books, Beads, and More to make my heartfelt stories more easily accessible for the Richmond market!”
Books, Beads, and More is located at 8106 Mechanicsville Turnpike in Mechanicsville, VA. Visitors to the bookstore can browse a wide selection of used media, including books, CDs, DVDs and Blu-rays. The shop also sells new books by local authors and locally made jewelry and beaded handicrafts.
“Books, Beads, and More loves to support local authors and crafters,” says owner Erin Schilling. “When we opened the store, we saw the talent we had in our own area and realized authors needed a way to be discovered by the community. I have seriously enjoyed hearing their stories!”
The book-signing event is free, and readers can bring their own Heather Wood books for signing or buy any of her books at the event. Readers can get updates about Wood’s books on her website.
