According to The Guardian
J. D. Vance said he intends to persuade his wife to convert to Christianity, while she remains focused on Hinduism.
During a Turning Point event dedicated to the memory of the well-known conservative blogger Charlie Kirk, he spoke about his family decisions and raising his children in the Christian tradition.
“Our two children attend a Christian school. Our eight-year-old son just received his First Communion a year ago. This is how we decided to reach an agreement. As I have told her, and as I told the public: do I hope that eventually she will be somehow moved by the same thing that moved me in church? Yes. I sincerely wish this, because I believe in the Christian Gospel and I hope that eventually my wife will see it the same”
He admitted that he had previously embraced Catholicism and was baptized in 2019, commenting that his views on politics and society align with the Catholic Church’s social teaching: he saw an overlap between what he wanted to see and what the Catholic Church seeks.
“My views on government policy and on what the optimal state should be align quite a bit with Catholic social teaching. I saw a real overlap between what I would like to see and what the Catholic Church would like to see”
The vice president’s wife, Usha Vance, publicly stated that she does not plan to convert to Christianity, but insists that the children also have access to her religious tradition – Hinduism.
“They have broad access to the Hindu tradition, from the books we give them to the things we show them during recent visits to India, and some religious elements of this visit”
The vice president stressed that everyone has the freedom of will to choose a religion by their own decision, noting that this does not pose any problems for him.
“God says that everyone has free will, so this does not create a problem for me. It is something you work on with your friends, family, the person you love most”
In February, a dispute erupted at the White House involving J. D. Vance, President Trump of the United States, and Ukrainian President Zelensky. Vance voiced his view on a diplomatic approach to ending the Russia-Ukraine war, to which Zelensky replied that the Russian leader Vladimir Putin had repeatedly violated agreements and the ceasefire. After this, Vance noted that the conflict had been beneficial and would be remembered for that moment.
