Pars Today – Hezbollah of Lebanon emphasized coexistence, resistance, and confronting Israeli aggressions.
On the eve of Pope Leo XIV’s visit to Lebanon, the leader of the world’s Catholics, Hezbollah issued an official letter addressed to him. According to Pars Today, citing Al-Manar, the letter welcomed the Pope and highlighted Lebanon’s importance as a country with religious diversity and a unique role in coexistence and political stability. In this message, Hezbollah described Lebanon as a civilizational bridge between Islam and Christianity, as well as between different cultures and ideologies.
Hezbollah, recalling Pope John Paul II’s statement that Lebanon is “not merely a homeland, but a message,” emphasized the country’s role in creating a bridge between religions and cultures. The letter then refers to global crises resulting from the disregard for human rights, stating that this neglect has paved the way for domination and violence.
A significant part of the letter is dedicated to the situation in Palestine and Lebanon. Hezbollah described the Gaza tragedy as an “outright genocide” and Israel’s actions in Lebanon as an “unacceptable aggression,” attributing these issues to the Zionist regime’s greed for control over resources and lands. The letter also emphasized that the support of major powers for Israel constitutes a clear violation of the rights of the region’s nations.
Furthermore, Hezbollah emphasized its commitment to coexistence, consensual democracy, maintaining internal security, and confronting any form of aggression or occupation, while voicing its opposition to foreign interventions that threaten Lebanon’s independence.
The letter also highlighted commonalities between Muslims and Christians, portraying the followers of Jesus (peace be upon him) as bearers of love and defenders of human rights. Hezbollah urged the Pope, during his visit to Lebanon, to take a clear stance against injustice and Israeli aggressions and to demonstrate solidarity with the Lebanese people.
"This is what we entrust to you during your visit; a journey in which you express your concern, love, and solidarity to all Lebanese, and during which we wish you comfort and safety, praying to Almighty God to grant justice, security, and peace to the oppressed across the world. With our best wishes."
Pope Leo XIV began his journey from Turkey and is scheduled to arrive in Lebanon tomorrow, Sunday.
