Nicki Minaj thanked President Donald Trump's efforts to protect Nigerian Christians facing mass persecution during her address before the United States Mission to the United Nations in New York City on Tuesday.
"I stand here as a proud New Yorker with a deep sense of gratitude that we live in a country where we can freely and safely worship God regardless of one's creed, background or politics," Minaj said.

Minaj was invited to speak at the United Nations' address focused on the persecution of Christians in Nigeria by U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz, who shared that just a day prior to the event a group of 25 school girls were abducted. However, the kidnappers remain unknown.
Since the insurgency of jihadi group Boko Haram in 2009, an estimated 50,000 Christians have been killed in the African nation, according to a report gathered by Rep. Tim Moore (R-WV), who was tapped by Trump to investigate the persecution of Christians in Nigeria. Open Doors, a nongovernment organization, determined Nigeria the seventh most dangerous nation for Christians to live in.
"In Nigeria, Christians are being targeted, driven from their homes and killed," Minaj said. "Churches have been burned, families have been torn apart, and entire communities live in fear constantly, simply because of how they pray. Sadly, this problem is not only a growing problem in Nigeria, but also in so many other countries across the world, and it demands urgent action."
Minaj first publicly threw her support behind Christian Nigerians when she tweeted on November 1, thanking Trump for taking the attacks perpetrated against Christian Nigerians "seriously."

"And I want to be clear, protecting Christians in Nigeria is not about taking sides or dividing people. It is about uniting humanity," Minaj continued.
