Rapper Nicki Minaj dropped the mic at the United Nations Tuesday, delivering a stark warning about the plight of Christians being “targeted, driven from their homes and killed” in Nigeria.
Minaj was invited to address the international body by US Ambassador Mike Waltz, who hailed her as a “fearless advocate” whose message “echoes the UN’s own Universal Declaration of Human Rights.”
“She steps onto this world stage not as a celebrity, but as a witness,” Waltz gushed. “She could be living the good life, but she’s here rolling up her sleeves to try to save lives.”
Minaj, who has 28 million followers on X, has been using her social media platform to bring attention to the plight of slaughtered Christians in Nigeria.
“In Nigeria, Christians are being targeted,” Minaj said. “Churches have been burned, families have been torn apart … simply because of how they pray.”
Her activism came after President Trump in a Truth Social post on Nov. 2 threatened that the US could go to Nigeria “‘guns-a-blazing,’ to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities” should the country not stop the bloodshed.
“If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our CHERISHED Christians!” he wrote at the time.
Minaj during her speech thanked Trump for his leadership, commending him for calling for urgent action “to defend Christians in Nigeria, to combat extremism and to bring a stop to violence against those who simply want to exercise their natural right to freedom of religion or belief.”
The Trinidad-born artist described Nigeria as a “beautiful nation with deep faith traditions,” and even shouted out the “beautiful ‘barbs’” — her fans — affected by the violence in West Africa.
“Barbs, I know you’re somewhere listening. I love you so very much,” she said. “This isn’t about taking sides. This is about standing up in the face of injustice.”
“I will care if anyone, anywhere is being persecuted for their beliefs.”
