San Francisco 49ers star Christian McCaffrey is on the verge of making NFL history as he's poised to become the first player to surpass 1,000 rushing and receiving yards in two separate seasons. It comes as Kylie Kelce revealed a strict fighting rule for her husband Jason during his career with the Philadelphia Eagles.
McCaffrey has been a beacon of resilience, bouncing back from previous health woes — including Achilles tendonitis and a season-ending PCL injury last year — and leading the 49ers to a strong start this season. Despite key players like quarterback Brock Purdy and top pass rusher Nick Bosa being out due to injuries, the 29-year-old has carried San Francisco to a 5-2 record.
McCaffrey has been a dual threat, leading the team in both rushing and receiving through the first seven weeks of the season.
Despite averaging a career-low 3.5 yards per carry, the three-time First-Team All-Pro has been heavily utilized in the running game, racking up 465 yards and three touchdowns.
McCaffrey's ability to catch passes out of the backfield has always been a significant aspect of his game, and he's been highly effective in head coach Kyle Shanahan's offense this season. The former Carolina Panthers standout has caught 53 passes for 516 yards and three touchdowns.
Adding to his impressive performance is the fact that McCaffrey hasn't lost a fumble through seven games, which is even more noteworthy considering the high number of touches he's had with the 49ers dealing with injuries at receiver and tight end positions.
With 10 games remaining, McCaffrey is on pace to conclude the regular season with 1,129 rushing yards and 1,253 receiving yards. Should he surpass the four-figure threshold in both categories, he will etch his name in NFL history as the sole player to accomplish this remarkable double feat twice.
McCaffrey initially achieved this milestone with the Panthers in 2019, accumulating 1,387 rushing yards while adding 1,005 receiving yards.
The only other players to reach this historic benchmark are former 49ers back Roger Craig in 1985 and Marshall Faulk representing the St. Louis Rams in 1999.
McCaffrey delivered his most impressive performance of the campaign in Week 7, amassing 129 rushing yards and two touchdowns during a 20-10 triumph over the Atlanta Falcons. He additionally recorded seven receptions for 72 yards.
"I always love just being able to physically run the ball and control the game like that," Shanahan said.
"I think most people prefer to do it that way, but each team has a different identity, and you got to do whatever you think gives you the best chance to win."
McCaffrey may not stand alone in the 1,000-1,000 club this season, as Falcons standout Bijan Robinson is also positioned to eclipse both benchmarks.
The third-year running back has burst from the starting blocks with 524 rushing yards, alongside 390 yards on 30 catches, placing him on course to hit four digits in both statistical categories before the regular season concludes.
