Delayed and missing iOS 18 Apple Intelligence features are Apple’s focus right now when it comes to iPhone software, with the next batch of AI additions set to come via iOS 18.4 this spring. That’s not surprising, considering that Apple already teased this release schedule.
What is more surprising are the Apple Intelligence development side effects mentioned in more recent reports. Insiders say that iOS 19 will see feature release delays similar to what Apple did with iOS 18.
For example, Apple’s ChatGPT-like Siri LLM chatbot might be unveiled at WWDC 2019 next summer, but it reportedly won’t be released until spring 2026. That’s because Apple software engineers are still working on other Apple Intelligence features that aren’t ready yet.

As a result, some iOS 19 features might be delayed, though reports have given no indication of what they might be. What I’m certain about, though, is that Apple will also build non-AI functionality for iOS 19 to advance the platform’s usability and provide new features to the millions of iPhone users with devices that don’t support Apple Intelligence.

While we wait for more meaningful iOS 19 leaks, we already have concept videos from designers imagining the kind of features Apple might bring to the iPhone in 2025. As always with concept videos, I’ll note they do not show confirmed or existing products.
But I did like two tricks that designer Oofus crafted for their iOS 19 video: An improved way to share images via AirDrop, and Apple Intelligence support for iPhone screenshots.
The video is just 77 seconds long, mimicking the kind of iOS presentation Apple might cook up for a new software release. The concept covers various ideas that make sense for the evolution of iOS, especially regarding customization.

Apple added several new ways for iPhone users to customize the UI in iOS 18, similar to what Android has offered for years. It’s easy to assume Apple will expand the customization options it offers iPhone users.
The designer imagined a way to add stickers to the Lock Screen, a trick that some iPhone users might appreciate. Similarly, the concept imagines support in iMessage for custom backgrounds, something other chat apps offer. Interestingly, such a customization option would turn the iconic blue messages typical for iMessage into any color option. I’m not sure Apple would ever want to lose that key design element.
Oofus then showcases iOS 19 features that would be more useful than the UI customization options above. The designer imagined a gesture called Flick, which lets you flick images from one iPhone to another via AirDrop. Flick looks a lot like the NameDrop contact-sharing feature that Apple already added to iOS.

As someone who shares plenty of content via AirDrop between my Apple devices, I’d love to see a gesture like Flick work in iOS 19. Just pick a file or group of files and flick them over to a different device. A confirmation screen would still probably be needed to avoid accidental sharing with strangers.
Finally, the concept video suggests Apple might add Apple Intelligence support to screenshots. I also frequently take screenshots of things I find online on my iPhone, and managing or even remembering them can be a chore. That’s where AI can help. Apple Intelligence could retain information and surface it when I need it.
Microsoft developed something like that in mind, the already-infamous Recall feature. Google created a new Screenshots app for Pixel phones that takes a different, more useful approach.

The concept video imagines Apple Intelligence being able to extract information from a screenshot, like a QR code, without going for the deeper functionality I want.
That said, I’d certainly appreciate Apple developing iOS 19 features similar to what the designer imagined, especially the Flick trick and smarter screenshots.

Rep. Charles Young Junior’s life celebrated by many – WTOK

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) – Charles Young Junior represented Mississippi’s 82nd district since 2012, and on December 18, he passed away at the age of 62.
Hundreds of people gathered Tuesday to celebrate his life.  There were songs, poems, and resolutions presented in honor of who his family called Chuck.
There were many sad people, but rather than crying. People were laughing, applauding, and praising God for the life Charles lived.  People remembered the life he led as a public servant, and people spoke about the life he lived and the good times they had with one of East Mississippi’s longtime leaders.
“One night, we left Gulfport, had to be10:30 at night from a game and Chuck said man, ain’t nothing  Open but fast food.  We are going to eat in, Laurel. I said, if nothing’s open on the coast, what’s open in Laurel?  Don’t worry about it. We pull up at somebody’s house. Full meal at midnight.  That’s just Chuck,” said Supervisor Craig Houston.
While in office Charles was revered for his public service and his want to serve the people he represented.  But, between his colleagues in the legislature there was one thing he was known for the most.
“We called him the information guy. He was the 411, the Yellow Pages, the White Pages, the Rolodex, and, in today’s terms, Google. Because if you wanted to know anybody in the state, all you had to do was make one call, that’s all to Charles Young Jr,” said Rep. Oscar Denton.
Chuck left an impact on many peoples lives throughout his adulthood, but before then he was leaving lasting memories with his childhood friends.
“Every monumental moment of childhood, it seems like I spent with Chuck.  We were in kindergarten together. Elementary school together.  We learn to ride, ride bikes together.  We learned to swim together. We went to Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. We had our first jobs together.  It just seemed like everywhere I went Chuck was a part of my life.  Please don’t tell my parents this, but Chuck, even taught me how to drive. Well before the legal age,” said MHS Class President of 1980 Gordon Greenwood.
After all the speeches, resolutions, and funny memories shared, his sister, Judge Veldore Young Graham, took the stage and led the congregation in song. Singing the hymn “It Is Well.”

Those who hacked the Internet Archive haven’t gone away. Users of the Internet Archive who have submitted helpdesk tickets are reporting replies to the tickets from the hackers themselves.
Internet Archive, most known for its Wayback Machine, is a digital library that allows users to look at website snapshots from the past. It is often used for academic research and data analysis. Earlier in October, the Internet Archive suffered from a data breach and DDoS attack.
During that breach the attackers were able to steal a user authentication database containing 31 million records.
While the Wayback Machine is almost fully functional again, in a recent turn of events the attackers have started replying to those users that have opened a support ticket with the Internet Archive.
This is one of the replies a user reported:
“It’s dispiriting to see that even after being made aware of the breach 2 weeks ago, IA has still not done the due diligence of rotating many of the API keys that were exposed in their gitlab secrets.
As demonstrated by this message, this includes a Zendesk token with perms to access 800K+ support tickets sent to info@archive.org since 2018.
Whether you were trying to ask a general question, or requesting the removal of your site from the Wayback Machine—your data is now in the hands of some random guy. If not me, it’d be someone else.
Here’s hoping that they’ll get their shit together now.”
An Application Programming Interface (API) token is like a special pass that allows a computer program or app to access and use services provided by another program or website. It is used as proof that the user or app has permission to access the service.
It appears as if the Internet Archive uses Zendesk to manage its support tickets. Having the Internet Archive’s Zendesk token would certainly explain why the hackers can reply to customer tickets.
Changing a Zendesk API token is not very hard, but it can have unexpected consequences, so it may require some advance planning to minimize potential disruptions. This could be why the Internet Archive may not have gotten round to it yet. But not changing API keys that would grant the attackers access to the organization’s important infrastructure like Zendesk would be a serious omission.
On October 18, 2024, Internet Archive founder Brewster Kahle, posted an update stating the stored data of the Internet Archive is safe and work on resuming services safely is in progress.
“We’re taking a cautious, deliberate approach to rebuild and strengthen our defenses. Our priority is ensuring the Internet Archive comes online stronger and more secure.”

Customer service platform Zendesk said it worked with the Internet Archive to help resolve the situation even though it was not their fault.
So far, the Internet Archive has not responded to the new developments, and the motivation for the attacks on the Internet Archive remain unclear. We’ll keep you posted.

Georgia is pivoting towards authoritarianism at a dizzying speed. After a contested election, pro-Russian Mikheil Kavelashvili is now the president of this former Soviet republic in the Caucasus. Barely inaugurated, he has already approved a series of legislative amendments intended to crush the pro-European protest movement and bring civil servants into line.
These measures, which came into effect on Monday, December 30, significantly increase fines for protesters, facilitate extrajudicial detentions and the dismissal of civil servants, expand the range of political appointments in the civil service and simplify the recruitment process for the police force.
“The regime is putting in place the legal framework to justify large-scale violent repression, arbitrary detentions and the torture of protesters,” explained Davit Zedelashvili, a constitutional law expert and researcher at the Tbilisi-based independent think tank Gnomon Wise. “This is in tandem with measures to purge the civil service and ensure the loyalty of civil servants. This blueprint, well-known in political science, is aimed at consolidating authoritarianism. This whole process is going to accelerate.”
