While he is retired from NASCAR, Harvick is still racing. He also has his son Keelan, who he is developing into a respectable racecar driver in his own right. In fact, father and son will race against each other multiple times in 2025.
Locals are going to love having Harvick at the track. He will try and show those West Coast racers why the track has his name on the sign.
Bakersfield, Calif. (Jan. 1, 2025) – #SPEARS #CARSTourWest announced today that @KevinHarvick will join the Super Late Model field during the series’ highly anticipated season opener on January 25 at #KevinHarvicksKernRaceway

Kevin Harvick is in the best part of his career. He is a co-owner of the CARS Tour, a FOX Sports broadcaster for the Cup Series, and he gets to race part-time in fun cars with his son. How does it get better than that?
Going back to Bakersfield is a big deal. West Coast stock car racing has not been thriving exactly. It needs a little bit of support. That’s where Harvick and the CARS Tour come in. Hopefully, the series is able to provide great racing and a set of rules/regulations that allows Super and Pro Late Model racing to thrive.

Of course, from February to the start of May, Kevin Harvick is busy with broadcasting duties. Before and after that, he is going to get on the race track as much as possible. That means racing with and against his son Keelan.
It isn’t like Harvick has a shortage of races to choose from, either. Of course, there is always some kind of short track action going on around North Carolina. However, the CARS Tour schedule makes Harvick’s schedule planning a bit more simple.
The CARS Tour West is a testament to Harvick’s love for stock car racing on that side of the country. While there is no shortage of talent from California, a lot of it comes from the dirt racing ranks. Sprint cars and dirt late models.
Kevin Harvick has put his money where his mouth is. Now, he’s going to race at the track with his name on it. Bakersfield fans are going to be ready to see a legend return. What if he goes out and wins the dang thing?

New Orleans truck attack: Suspect identified as US citizen in attack that left 15 dead, sources say – WPVI-TV

The suspect, Shamsud Din Jabbar was shot and killed by police, officials said.
NEW ORLEANS — A suspect who was "hellbent" on killing as many people as possible drove a pickup truck around barricades and plowed his vehicle through a crowd of New Year's revelers on Bourbon Street in New Orleans at a high rate of speed, leaving at least 10 dead and injuring dozens of others early Wednesday, city and federal officials said.
New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell described the horrific incident a "terrorist attack" and the FBI said it was being investigated as an act of terror.

A suspect who was "hellbent" on killing as many people as possible drove a pickup truck around barricades and plowed his vehicle through a crowd of New Year's revelers on Bourbon Street in New Orleans at a high rate of speed, leaving at least 15 dead and injuring dozens of others early Wednesday, city and federal officials said.
After mowing down numerous people over a three-block stretch on the famed thoroughfare while firing shots into the crowd, the suspect — identified by the FBI as Shamsud Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old Army veteran — allegedly got out of the truck wielding an assault rifle and opened fire on police officers, law enforcement officials briefed on the incident told ABC News. Officers returned fire, killing the suspect who was not immediately identified, sources said. At least two police officers were shot and wounded, authorities said.
Attorney General Merrick Garland said the FBI is investigating this matter as an act of terrorism.
The New Orleans truck attack suspect spoke on his background in a now-removed YouTube video posted in 2020.
Shamsud Din Jabbar, 42, said he was born and raised in Beaumont, Texas and spent a decade working in the U.S. military before becoming a realtor in the Houston area.
His years in the military were spent working as a human resources and IT specialist, Jabbar said in the video that has since been removed from YouTube following Wednesday's attack.
Family members and friends have begun identifying the 15 people who died in the truck-ramming attack early Wednesday morning on Bourbon Street in New Orleans.
Here's what we know about the victims so far:
Nicole Perez, 27 has been confirmed as one of the victims by Kimberly Usher-Fall, her employer and family spokesperson.
Perez leaves behind a 4-year-old son, Melo.
"It is with sadness that I write this GoFundMe. My friend and my manager of our store, Nicole, was killed this morning in the attack on New Orleans Bourbon Street," Usher-Fall wrote.
"She was so beautiful and full of life. Her son Melo is now without his momma, and we are without our friend and dedicated employee. I'm hoping to get some help for her burial expenses and to help her son with expenses he will need to transition into a new living situation."
Reggie Hunter's death was confirmed by his first cousin, Shirell Jackson.
"He did not deserve this," she told ABC News' Diane Macedo. "It's senseless and cruel. I wish none of this had ever happened."
Jackson said Hunter, 37, leaves behind two sons. She described him as the "life of the party" with a big heart who was funny, loving and caring.
"This is hurting all of us differently and on so many levels," she said. "We were expecting so much life to live with our cousin … Just a beautiful person that did not deserve this and had so much life to live."
An image of suspect Shamsud Din Jabbar has been released.
New Orleans police have reviewed surveillance video that appears to show several people planting potential explosive devices in advance of the vehicle ramming, leading the FBI to conclude the driver of the pickup truck was not "solely responsible" for the attack, law enforcement sources told ABC News.
Investigators are urgently working to identify the individuals who were seen on camera and take them into custody.

‘Disturbing surge in cryptocurrency fraud’ led by young, tech-savvy Nigerian men – Study Finds

Research led by Dr. Suleman Lazarus, University of Surrey

SURREY, England — In an eye-opening study that sheds new light on the evolving landscape of digital financial crime, researchers have uncovered a striking pattern in Nigerian cryptocurrency fraud: all convicted perpetrators are male, and nearly two-thirds are under 30 years old. This revelation comes from recent research conducted through an unprecedented collaboration between academic institutions and Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The study arrives at a critical moment in global digital finance. Nigeria has emerged as the third-largest player in Bitcoin transactions globally, trailing only Russia and the United States, with cryptocurrency transactions reaching approximately $400 million. This surge in digital currency adoption reflects both opportunity and risk in Africa’s most populous nation, where only 36.8% of adults have access to traditional banking services.
“Our research reveals a disturbing surge in cryptocurrency fraud,” says study lead author Dr. Suleman Lazarus, a cybercrime expert at the University of Surrey, in a statement. “We’re observing a rising generation of young, tech-savvy male offenders who adeptly exploit digital platforms and cryptocurrencies to perpetrate high-stakes fraud.”
The research, published in Current Issues in Criminal Justice, reveals a clear geographical targeting pattern, with 55% of cases involving American victims. This international reach demonstrates how digital currencies have transformed the scope and scale of financial crimes, enabling fraudsters to operate across borders with unprecedented ease.
What makes these findings particularly intriguing is the fraudsters’ educational background. Despite the technical nature of cryptocurrency transactions, only a quarter of convicted fraudsters held university degrees, challenging assumptions about the expertise required for such crimes.
The digital toolbox of these fraudsters primarily consists of mainstream social media platforms. Facebook emerged as the preferred platform, used in 27% of cases, followed by Gmail at 22% and Instagram at 14%. These familiar platforms serve as hunting grounds where fraudsters establish trust before executing their schemes.
The financial scale of these operations is staggering. While some cases involved modest sums around $1,000, others reached heights of $475,000 in cash, with one case involving 1,200 Bitcoin – approximately $81.96 million. These figures underscore the lucrative nature of cryptocurrency fraud and its potential for devastating financial impact.
Bitcoin dominates as the preferred cryptocurrency for fraudulent activities, featuring in 46% of cases. This preference likely stems from Bitcoin’s decentralized nature and the relative anonymity it provides, presenting significant challenges for law enforcement in tracking and recovering stolen funds.
“As cryptocurrencies continue to gain popularity, our research serves as a wake-up call for law enforcement agencies, policymakers, and the general public to remain vigilant against the evolving threats in the digital financial landscape,” warns Dr. Lazarus.
The study illustrates how Nigerian cybercrime has evolved from traditional advance-fee scams to sophisticated cryptocurrency operations, reflecting broader changes in global financial systems and highlighting criminal enterprises’ adaptability. In a digital age where cryptocurrency promises financial inclusion and opportunity, this research serves as a crucial reminder of the shadow economy emerging alongside legitimate digital finance.
The study employed a structured approach, examining court records and case files of convicted cryptocurrency fraudsters from two major EFCC commands in Nigeria. Researchers analyzed 22 cases, documenting the fraudsters’ methods, preferred platforms, victim locations, and financial gains. This approach provided verifiable data from official sources, though it necessarily focused only on cases that resulted in convictions.
The findings paint a clear picture: all convicted fraudsters were male, predominantly under 30, with relatively low formal education levels. They primarily used social media platforms, with Facebook being the most common tool. Most targeted American victims, using Bitcoin as their preferred cryptocurrency. Financial gains varied significantly, demonstrating the range of schemes employed.
The research faced several constraints. The sample size of 22 cases, while providing valuable insights, represents only convicted cases, potentially missing more sophisticated operators who evade detection. Additionally, the focus on two EFCC commands might not represent the entire country’s cryptocurrency fraud landscape.
The research reveals an urgent need for international collaboration in combating cryptocurrency fraud. The predominance of young male offenders and their focus on American targets suggests a need for targeted intervention strategies and enhanced cross-border cooperation in law enforcement.
The study, conducted in collaboration with Nigeria’s EFCC, underwent ethical clearance from both the University of Portsmouth (clearance number 1110) and the EFCC. The research team reports no conflicts of interest, with one author’s EFCC employment providing valuable access to case files while maintaining ethical research standards.

Drift Protocol announced its highly anticipated second-season airdrop, scheduled for launch in May 2025. Here’s what you need to know about the latest initiative from the Solana-based decentralized exchange (DEX).

Drift protocol launched in 2021 and had its inaugural airdrop in May 2024, releasing 120 million DRIFT tokens, representing approximately 12% of the total supply. This aimed to reward early adopters, active traders, and contributors to their ecosystem.
The airdrop stood out for its innovative distribution mechanism, where participants received their allocation in two parts. These were an initial distribution available at launch and a bonus that unlocked linearly over six hours.
The unique approach aimed at mitigating network congestion and discouraging immediate sell-offs, a common issue plaguing many token launches.
Drift v1 and v2 users, participants in the Drift Point program, and Drift Keepers who had matched at least $1,000 in aggregate volume were eligible. This broad inclusion ensured that the airdrop encompassed all users, from casual traders to professional traders within the Drift community.
The second season airdrop set for May 2025 aims to build on the success of the first. While details are unavailable, distributing more $DRIFT tokens aims to empower its user base further to play an active role in shaping the platform’s future.
Drift Protocol encourages long-term engagement with the protocol by rewarding active participants. This could inspire other projects to prioritize user retention over short-term hype.
Furthermore, the unique and innovative token distribution model sets a precedent for airdrops in the cryptocurrency industry. Other projects following suit could lead to more sophisticated and user-friendly distribution models.
Finally, the excitement and positive sentiment driven by the airdrop could lead to increased interest in DeFi projects. Additionally, as a leading DEX on Solana, it could enhance the growth and legitimacy of the Solana ecosystem.
DRIFT/USD price action (Source: TradimgView)
$DRIFT is trading at $1.331 at a market cap of $358.90 million. The RSI of 42.44 indicates that while there is no buying or selling pressure, there is a slightly bearish sentiment.
The MACD line is below the signal line, reinforcing the slightly bearish sentiment shown by the RSI.
Both RSI and MACD indicate that traders should be cautious as they monitor for potential trend continuation or possible reversals.
RSI and MACD should be considered with other market and technical indicators for better trading decisions.
