China hits jackpot: In a significant development for its growth requirements, the People’s Republic of China has announced that it has found deposit of uranium near Jingchuan in the Ordos Basin. The discovery is being seen as a major strategic strength for Chinese President Xi Jinping and will help China produce nuclear energy for clean energy. Here are all the details you need to know about China’s recent discovery of Uranium and how it can be a stepping stone in the China’s development story.

The finding of the Uranium Reserves in China will help secure a sufficient supply of uranium for China’s energy reserves. The China Geological Survey is collaborating with different departments and mining companies on these exploration projects.

Uranium reserves in China are primarily located in sandstone formations. These deposits can be found in regions such as the Ordos Basin, Yili, Junggar, Tarim, Tuha, Kadam, Erlian, and Songliao valleys. Additionally, there are ongoing initiatives to locate uranium deposits in various other parts of the country.

US President Donald Trump, affirmed hope of having a “very good relationship” with China under his administration, while also stressing the need to have a “level-playing field” regarding the trade situation.

Virtually addressing the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Trump said, “He (Xi Jinping) called me. But I see it very good. I think that we are going to have a very good relationship,” Trump said, noting that the US has been facing significant trade deficits with China, a situation he attributed to former President Biden’s policies.”
Calling the relationship “unfair”, Trump said the US doesn’t want to take any advantage but wants fairness. He also criticised the Biden administration for allowing the trade deficit to go “out of hand”.

Donald Trump states his priorities in the special relationship and they are rather royal – Royal Central

A week after his inauguration as 47th President of the United States, Donald Trump has had his first official conversation with Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, and he made his priorities clear.
In a statement released after their phone call, top of the must mention list was President Trump’s desire to send ”well wishes for the British Royal Family.”
The US President has made no secret of his admiration for the Royal Family and had spoken before, in glowing terms, of King Charles and Queen Camilla.
In particular, he is a big fan of Queen Elizabeth II who he met several times. In 2019, Her Late Majesty hosted him on a State Visit.
Ahead of his inauguration, reports that President Trump would become the first elected leader to receive two State Visit invitations from London surfaced. His latest comments have only intensified speculation that a State Visit is now all but inked in.
The US President also offered condolences to Sir Keir Starmer who lost his brother recently. Sir Keir said the President’s sympathies were much appreciated.
Ahead of the US election, some Labour Party members went to the US to help campaign for Kamala Harris, a move that drew criticism from Donald Trump.
Commentators on both sides of the Atlantic have highlighted the important role that King Charles and the Royal Family could play in the relationship between the UK and the US in the second Trump administration.
Just weeks before Donald Trump took power, the Prince of Wales held a private meeting with him in Paris after both attended the official reopening of Notre Dame.

IT’S LOL TIME: Purvis coming back for Comedy Night in Pelham – PelhamToday.ca

Darryl Purvis is a well-known name in the world of stand-up comedy.
“He’s probably the topmost respected comics in the country,” organizer David Green said. “He’s originally from Nova Scotia, but he’s lived in New York, he’s lived in L.A., he’s lived in San Francisco. He’s done comedy all over the world. He’s just one of the best.”
This has included several stops in Niagara, where he has performed at the grand opening of the now closed Showtime comedy club in St. Catharines and more recently a New Year’s Eve headlining gig at the Spotlight Comedy club, which opened in the same spot on St. Paul Street in downtown St. Catharines where Showtime was located.
And now Purvis will be back in Niagara on Feb. 22, when he headlines Comedy Night in Pelham at the Meridian Community Centre.
“He’s just, he’s just a very, very likeable guy, too.” Green said. “He’s not going to be swearing and causing controversy.”
Also on the bill are Rhiannon Archer, Rebecca Hardy and Ben McKay.
“I’ve known her for as long as I’ve been in comedy,” Green said of Archer. “She’s done all the big comedy festivals— the Winnipeg Comedy Festival shows on CBC. She’s hilarious.”
Green is looking forward to seeing how Hardy handles the next steps in her comedy career.
“I’ve known Rebecca for many years,” Green said, adding that comedy is only part of the St. Catharines woman’s artistic skill set. “She’s a player, stand-up, performing musician, improviser, and just watching how she’s progressed over the years and how she’s killing it with crowds everywhere I’m excited to see her in front of a big crowd.”
As for McKay, Green said he had heard good things about him, but it wasn’t until last year that the pair crossed paths.
“We did a fundraiser for Community Care (of St. Catharines and Thorold) last year, and we had a comic who couldn’t make it at the last minute, and somebody suggested Ben. He came down and, absolutely, he was the funniest guy on all show. Absolutely crushed it.”

One of the Best Horror Movies Ever Gets a New Streaming Home – ComicBook.com

This groundbreaking horror film can now find a brand new audience.
By
One of the most critically acclaimed horror films of all time, 1992’s Candyman, will be available to stream on Peacock on February 1st. The film tells the story of semiotics student Helen Lyle who decides to learn about local urban legends and stumbles upon one about Candyman. Candyman is a vengeful ghostly murderer who appears behind anyone who says his name five times in a mirror and kills them with his hook for a right hand. While Helen is initially dismissive of the urban legend, she hears stories about recent murders at Cabrini–Green Homes public housing project in Chicago that locals are attributing to Candyman. Helen ignores the warnings about summoning him, unintentionally unleashing something that doesn’t want to be ignored any longer.
Candyman was written and directed by Bernard Rose, which he adapted from legendary horror author Clive Barker’s short story, “The Forbidden.” The original story was set in Liverpool and commented on the British class system. However, Rose transplanted the story to the inner city neighborhoods of Chicago, using the plot to explore racism and social class in America. Virginia Madsen stars as Helen Lyle while Tony Todd stars as Daniel Robitaille / Candyman, who would become the boogeyman of 1990s horror.
It’s impossible to praise Candyman without highlighting Todd’s portrayal of the title character. His enigmatic yet threatening presence, resonant voice, and intensity have made him one of the most iconic horror movie slashers, right alongside Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, and Jason Voorhees. But what sets Candyman apart from – if not above – his fellow cinema killers is his complexity. Candyman isn’t merely driven by bloodlust or sadism; he has a tragic backstory that ties into the film’s deeper themes about race.
Before he became a vengeful spirit, he was an artist and son of a slave in the late 19th century who was brutally tortured and murdered when his relationship with a White woman was discovered. He had his right hand sawed off, was covered in honey, and left to be stung to death by bees. Candyman now appears with a bloody hook for a right hand, his massive brown coat covering a bee-eaten body. Is it any wonder that countless kids – many of whom had never even seen the movie – were terrified to say his name five times in a mirror?
It’s a testament to just how enduring and terrifying Candyman is as a character despite taking up such a small amount of screen time. In an interview with Empire (via FlexibleHead) Todd stated, “The weird thing is that he’s only actually on screen for ten or twelve minutes, but he’s talked about every single second of the film. Less is definitely more: he grows in the audience’s imagination. I also think there’s a lot of heart and soul to the first two films. Other, subsequent horror films may have been more financially successful, but they don’t have Candyman’s depth.”
The film’s score is also worth pointing out, as well. Written by Philip Glass, widely regarded as one of the most influential composers of the 20th century, the haunting score largely consists of repetitive melodic phrases that gradually build in tension, giving the film a grand, almost operatic emotional weight that few horror movies have.
While the film may have deviated from the source material a fair amount, this was a wise choice on Rose’s part who uses it to explore how the trauma of the past can still live on in the form of bigotry in the present. While Candyman is initially dismissed as a way for the local Black community to cope with ongoing issues of inequality and racism, it’s revealed that he’s more than a figment of their imagination – he’s the personification of the sins of the past that refuse to be forgotten. Candyman may prove divisive for some, but the film’s ability to fuse gory horror with thoughtful social commentary is enough to set it apart from the typical slasher movie.
Candyman was enough of a hit to spawn two sequels, 1995’s Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh and 1999’s Candyman 3: Day of the Dead. However, even with Todd’s appearance as the titular character in those films, neither fared particularly well with critics or audiences, leaving the series dormant. That is, until producer Jordan Peele and director Nia DaCosta revived it with a spiritual sequel – also called Candyman – in 2021 to strong reviews and box office success. While there has only been some initial talk regarding a new installment in the franchise, just like its eponymous character, it will probably return when we least expect it.
Candyman will be available to watch on Peacock on February 1st.
