There will be some college football action Saturday but Texas football will not be playing.
The Longhorns have some time to recover physically and mentally after a taxing loss to Georgia in the Southeastern Conference championship. Their next game will be Dec. 21 against Clemson in the first round of the 12-team College Football Playoff.
Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian appreciates the extended layover, though he would have loved the extra week of rest the first-round bye would’ve brought.
“I would love to get as healthy as we can get, but nobody’s going to be 100% healthy at this point of the season,” Sarkisian said last Monday. “Everybody’s got bumps and bruises.”
More:Texas football film study: Where does blame lie for Longhorns’ 2nd loss to Georgia?
Texas faced Georgia without its starting left tackle Kelvin Banks Jr., who was dealing with a left ankle injury. Banks was selected to the All-SEC first team this past week and is projected to be a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft. The Longhorns will also hope to get wide receiver Isaiah Bond and quarterback Quinn Ewers as close to fully healthy as possible.
No. Texas is the fifth seed in the College Football Playoff and will face Clemson, the 12th seed, in the first round. The winner will face Arizona State in the quarterfinals at the Peach Bowl on New Year’s Day. If Texas wins, it will play a semifinal on Jan. 10 at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas with a chance to head to the national title game on Jan. 20, 2025, in Atlanta.
Clemson is led by quarterback Cade Klubnik, who has some history with the Austin area. A Westlake alumnus, Klubnik defeated Ewers and Southlake Carroll in the state finals of the 2021 UIL Texas high school football playoffs.

Transylvania's last Saxons bring ghost villages back to life – RFI English
Cincșor (Romania) (AFP) – Carmen Schuster left the Transylvanian village of Cincsor for West Germany in search of a better life 40 years ago. But when she returned to Romania for work years later, she was overcome by an urge to stay – and to save the centuries-old Saxon community she once called home.
Issued on:
Schuster is a member of a dwindling ethnic German minority in Romania, descendants of Saxons who were recruited by the Hungarian kings to settle in Transylvania from the 12th century onwards.
“We had to save the school, which was in ruins,” Schuster, who is now in her 60s, told French news agency AFP. Alongside her husband Michael Lisske, she has been carefully restoring the historical heart of Cincsor for more than a decade, and transforming some of the buildings into guesthouses in a mission to revive the village.
“Other buildings have also been restored and the village once again revolves around its Protestant church,” which still holds services for its seven remaining parishioners, Schuster said.
Britain’s King Charles III – who claims descent from the notorious 15th-century Transylvanian prince known as Vlad the Impaler – also owns a number of properties nearby, renting out some to tourists.
Transylvania gears up for King Charles III’s first post-coronation visit
Before the Second World War, Romania was home to a Saxon community of up to 300,000 people. Today, there are only around 10,000 remaining, many of them having emigrated in the 1970s and 80s to escape persecution under the Communist dictatorship of Nicolae Ceausescu.
Transylvania’s abandoned Saxon villages were gradually repopulated by Romanians, who often had no connection to the region’s 800-year history.
But the unique atmosphere of these historic villages at the foot of the Carpathian mountains never fully faded, with many of their fortress-like churches listed as Unesco World Heritage sites.
Romania’s top court annuls presidential vote amid Russia interference fears
“In the 15th century, they fortified their churches so they could serve as a refuge for the inhabitants in the event of an attack,” explained 71-year-old Lisske. “The Hungarians had promised the Saxons freedom in exchange for bringing them here, so they had no royal protection,” the former history teacher said.
For Schuster, preserving the Saxon heritage symbolises a “belated victory” over “inhumane and contemptuous” treatment during Ceausescu’s Communist rule that “did everything to erase it”.
Schuster’s year-round guesthouses have become the village’s main employer, she said, boosting tourism in a region heavily dependent on agriculture and farming.
Ramona Amariei is one of 15 locals who has found work there as a chambermaid and waitress, and a seamstress during the off-season. “There is no discrimination,” said Amariei, who has Roma roots, and feels proud to be part of the “family”. “Mrs Schuster is trying to integrate pretty much all types of people.”
Adrian Boscu, a chef, says he is committed to putting a modern twist on “old Saxon recipes” to revive them, incorporating local produce as much as he can.

The guesthouse business has been booming and the idea is spreading, with other nearby villages also restoring their centuries-old heritage to revitalise their economies.
“I think it’s catching on,” said Schuster. “There are lots of people who have interesting projects.”
The house next door has also been renovated. Its Romanian owner, Nicolas Mioque, returned from France after 57 years. Schuster and her husband “have breathed new life into this village,” he said, noting that Cincsor without the guesthouses would be “sad”.

Published – December 15, 2024 08:07 pm IST – Bengaluru :
A delegation of researchers from the University of Sassari, who are visiting India on Sunday as part of Italian Space Day, shared their expertise on how to sustain human life in space and the challenges faced by space researchers and astronauts to support life beyond Earth.
Prof. Plinio Innocenzi, Dr. Alessia Manca, and Dr. Andrada Pica delivered lectures at the Science Gallery Bengaluru on aerospace materials and avionics, astrobiology, and human performance analysis in simulated gravity, respectively. Dr. Pica said that astronauts’ exposure to altered gravity environments could lead to significant physiological changes.
She said that, for instance, alteration in the neuro-vestibular system can cause vestibular disorders and space motion sickness. In the nervous system, there could be damage at the tissue level. Cardiovascular dysfunction can cause heart atrophy and vascular and cardiac alterations. With regard to muscle atrophy, there could be a 5% to 10 % decrease in muscle size and a 20% decrease in muscle strength. Similarly, there can be a bone loss of 1.5% per month in the hip and femur and 1% in the lumbar spine per month.
Prof. Innocenzi said that important challenges lie ahead, especially regarding the exploration of deep space and the colonisation of the Moon and Mars.
“Even in the highly controlled environment, characterised by microgravity, increased Carbon Dioxide levels and elevated solar radiation, microorganisms occupy a unique niche. The microbial inhabitations play a significant role in influencing the health and well-being of the astronauts onboard,” he said.
He added that robotic space exploration will be the future and that AI could be used, as the space environment is hostile and harsh. Dr. Manca spoke about microgravity and the future of space nutrition.

Isaiah Saldivar: Why Deliverance Matters in a Troubled World – Charisma Magazine Online

In an age when society seems increasingly plagued by chaos, addiction and brokenness, deliverance minister and revivalist Isaiah Saldivar argues that the church has overlooked one of its most critical callings: the ministry of deliverance. In a recent interview with Charisma Media, Saldivar shared his perspective on why deliverance is essential and how it directly addresses the rise of demonic influence in our world.
A Biblical Mandate for Deliverance
“The ministry of deliverance is not optional for Christians,” Saldivar said. “It was a core part of Jesus’ ministry and should be a core part of ours.” He pointed to passages such as Mark 16:17, where Jesus said, “These signs will accompany those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues.” This Scripture shows the authority that we as believers have over unclean spirits and the responsibility to remove them.
Saldivar also highlighted the spiritual war described in Ephesians 6:12: “For our fight is not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, and against spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” According to Saldivar, ignoring this reality leaves Christians vulnerable. “If we’re not engaged in spiritual warfare, then the enemy is free to operate unchecked in our lives and communities,” he warned.

The Rising Tide of Demonic Influence
Saldivar argued that modern culture has seen a surge in demonic activity, often disguised as entertainment or self-help. “We’re seeing demonic influence normalized through music, movies, and even social media,” he said. “People don’t even realize they’re opening doors to the enemy.” He pointed to instances of mass shootings, rampant addiction, and increasing depression as evidence of a deeper spiritual crisis. “The devil is not hiding anymore,” Saldivar emphasized. “He’s working overtime to destroy lives, and the church needs to wake up.”

This perspective aligns with biblical warnings about the devil’s schemes. In 1 Peter 5:8, believers are urged to “Be sober and watchful, because your adversary the devil walks around as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” Saldivar believes that many Christians around the world have underestimated this adversary and, in doing so, have left themselves spiritually defenseless.
Deliverance as a Tool for Restoration
“Deliverance is not about making people feel bad or focusing on demons,” Saldivar said. “It’s about setting people free so they can live the abundant life Jesus promised.” He referenced John 10:10: “The thief does not come, except to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
Saldivar shared testimonies of individuals who experienced life-changing freedom through deliverance. “I’ve seen people instantly set free from years of addiction, depression, and torment,” he said. “That’s the power of Jesus working through deliverance ministry.”

Equipping the Church for Battle
One of Saldivar’s key concerns is that many churches are ill-equipped to address spiritual warfare. “We’ve turned church into a self-help seminar,” he lamented. “People are walking in with spiritual baggage and leaving with the same chains because no one is teaching them how to fight.”
Saldivar urged pastors and leaders to prioritize equipping their congregations for spiritual battle. “Teach them to pray, teach them to fast and teach them to stand on the Word of God,” he said. “We can’t afford to ignore this any longer.”

Ethereum is more than just a cryptocurrency; it’s a unique platform that is changing how we use blockchain technology. Created by Vitalik Buterin in 2013 and launched in 2015, Ethereum introduced smart contracts and decentralized applications, opening up a world of possibilities. In 2022, it switched to a more energy-efficient system called Proof-of-Stake. Plans for “sharding” aim to make transactions faster and cheaper. While many tokens run on its network, ETH remains at the core, used for transactions and rewarding those who help secure the network.
As the crypto market evolves, Ethereum stands out due to its ongoing improvements and wide use. Predictions suggest ETH could reach up to $6,580.53 next year and have a low of $2,700.31 in 2025, indicating potential growth. Compared to other coins, Ethereum’s vast ecosystem and upcoming upgrades give it a strong position. Layer 2 solutions like Arbitrum and Polygon make it even more efficient. In the current market, Ethereum’s advancements and solid foundation make it an attractive option to consider.
XRP is a digital currency gaining attention for its speed and low transaction costs. Created by Jed McCaleb, Arthur Britto, and David Schwartz, it started with 100 billion coins. Unlike traditional systems, XRP operates without a central authority, making transactions secure and irreversible.
There is no need for a bank account to use it, which opens doors for many people around the world. Ripple, the company that was gifted 80 billion XRP, uses these coins to improve the network and support its growth. They have placed 55 billion XRP in escrow to release the supply carefully. The name XRP comes from “ripple credits,” highlighting its aim to make payments flow smoothly across different currencies.
XRP’s technology focuses on speed and efficiency. Transactions on the XRP Ledger are quick and cost very little, which is a big advantage over some other cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum that can be slower and more expensive to use. In today’s market, where instant and affordable transactions are in demand, XRP stands out. Its ability to facilitate cross-border payments without high fees makes it attractive.
As the crypto market evolves, coins that offer practical solutions like XRP may become more prominent. Comparing XRP with other digital currencies shows its potential in providing a seamless payment experience, which could be appealing in the current market trends.
Cardano is turning heads in the cryptocurrency world with its innovative approach to blockchain technology. At its core is ADA, a coin that not only stores value but also powers the Cardano network. Unlike some other platforms, Cardano is built for smart contracts right from the start. This makes it a hub for creating decentralized finance apps, new crypto tokens, and games. What truly sets Cardano apart is its environmentally friendly design.
By using the Ouroboros proof-of-stake mechanism, it operates energy-efficiently, sidestepping the heavy energy use seen in traditional proof-of-work models. Plus, its unique two-layer system boosts transaction speeds, aiming to process up to a million transactions per second.
In today’s market, ADA stands out as a strong contender against coins like Ethereum’s ETH. With growing concerns about sustainability and scalability in blockchain technology, Cardano’s solutions are timely. The introduction of its native tokens in March 2021 marked a significant step forward, allowing for secure and low-fee interactions with smart contracts.
As the crypto landscape evolves, coins that address both efficiency and environmental impact are gaining attention. Cardano’s advancements position it well in current market trends, making it a noteworthy option for those interested in the future of decentralized technologies.
Shiba Inu (SHIB) is a cryptocurrency that started as a fun experiment. Inspired by Dogecoin, it uses the same cute dog mascot. But SHIB is different because it runs on the Ethereum blockchain. This means it can work with many Ethereum applications. Launched in August 2020 by an anonymous person named Ryoshi, SHIB had a huge supply of one quadrillion tokens.
To gain trust, Ryoshi sent half of these tokens to Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum. Buterin made headlines by donating a large amount of SHIB to help India fight COVID-19. He also “burned” 40% of the tokens, reducing the supply forever.
SHIB’s connection with Ethereum opens up many possibilities. Unlike Dogecoin, SHIB can be used in decentralized apps. There’s already ShibaSwap, a platform where users can trade tokens without a middleman. Plans for a future NFT platform and a system where holders can vote on changes make SHIB even more interesting.
In today’s market, SHIB shows potential because it combines the fun of memecoins with the power of Ethereum. While it’s still a risky investment, some see SHIB as more than just a joke, possibly offering real utility in the crypto world.
ETH, XRP, ADA, and SHIB are promising, but XYZVerse aims for 20,000% growth, blending sports and meme culture into a community-driven project with a clear roadmap.
For more information, visit the XYZVerse website and follow the project on X and Telegram for the latest updates.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s Policies Could Exacerbate Health Inequities – Forbes
GLENDALE, ARIZONA – AUGUST 23: Former Republican presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and … [+]
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will likely have a tremendous impact on public health in America for the next four years, given his nomination to serve as the Secretary of Health and Human Services under president-elect Donald Trump. The president-elect has said he would let Kennedy “go wild on health.”
Of particular concern are his views on vaccines, which could lead to enormous health disparities across the United States.
RFK is a known vaccine skeptic and has repeatedly claimed childhood vaccines can lead to autism. This association has not been proved to be true based on evidence-based studies. Childhood vaccination rates, which have already declined in the last several years due to misinformation, vaccine hesitancy and access issues will likely get worse if RFK continues to cast doubt on their efficacy.
The decline in childhood vaccination rates threaten herd immunity and will ultimately allow diseases that were thought to be eradicated to reappear. This is already happening in some cases, such as with measles. The disease was declared to be eradicated by the United States in 2000, but because of falling vaccination rates among children, 283 cases of Measles have already been documented throughout the country, and the majority within unvaccinated children according to the CDC.
Many if not all of these cases could be prevented with childhood vaccinations and with herd immunity. Herd immunity refers to the protection conferred upon a population against contagious diseases when a certain percentage of a population is protected against a disease through vaccination or prior exposure. For measles, this requires a vaccination rate of 95%.
RFK’s rhetoric on vaccines will undoubtedly lead to more vaccine hesitancy among Americans, which will invariably threaten herd immunity. Americans that will suffer most from a lack of herd immunity are those that are less likely to receive vaccines or those who do not benefit optimally from vaccines because of compromised immune functions. These people include underserved populations such as those living in rural areas where access to vaccines can be challenging, Black and Hispanic Americans who already have disproportionately lower rates of vaccination compared to White Americans and those who are uninsured and cannot afford vaccines. CDC data shows that these groups already have lower vaccination rates compared to many other Americans.
In addition, patients with compromised immune function like those with HIV or cancer patients will also be affected by decreasing herd immunity, because their bodies may not mount an appropriate immune response to vaccines even if they are vaccinated. This means that as vaccination rates for certain diseases fall in America, these patients will suffer most because they are more likely to get infected and even hospitalized as diseases spread.
Declining vaccination rates and herd immunity will invariably affect vulnerable populations, which will worsen health disparities and inequities that already exist for those that cannot get vaccinated or mount an appropriate response to vaccination. This means they will get sicker and potentially suffer complications from various diseases. In the case of measles, this could include getting pneumonia, swelling of the brain and even death.
Even beyond vaccines, RFK’s views and potential policies on fluoride in public water will also worsen health inequities. On his social media X account, Kennedy wrote, “On January 20, the Trump White House will advise all U.S. water systems to remove fluoride from public water.” Fluoride is known to prevent and protect individuals from dental caries and tooth decay. Fluoride reduces tooth decay by 25% in children and adults according to the American Dental Association.
Removing fluoride from public water supplies could result in a large increase in oral cavities across America. Furthermore, those that are likely to suffer most are those who cannot afford going to a dentist, those that live in rural areas that may not be able to access dental offices easily as well as underserved communities that do not have the luxury to purchase fluoridated water. Research has shown that water fluoridation not only decreases cavities, but also decreases socioeconomic health inequalities on oral health.
In the modern era where medical misinformation runs rampant, public health officials that rely and lead by evidence-based practices are necessary to safeguard the health for all Americans. To make America healthy again, we must never forget about the millions of Americans that are underserved and have limited access to health resources.
