The announcement of the Resident Evil 4 remake was not a surprise — even before the official confirmation, the game was mentioned in a leaked list of Capcom projects. Hackers stole it and posted it online when the company refused to pay the ransom. At the same time, many had a logical question: why the “four” and not Resident Evil Code: Veronica X? After all, the first one, if you don’t count the small nuances, still plays great today. But the second one just needed a full-fledged rethinking — in the spirit of the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3. It would seem that Capcom could have followed the path of Naughty Dog with The Last of Us: Part 1 — simply transferring the 2005 original to a new engine without touching the gameplay. But the developers decided not to take the easy way out and combined classic ideas with the developments from the remakes. The result was something new, but still familiar.
Table of Contents
The creation of Resident Evil 4 turned into a real puzzle for Capcom. The developers could not choose the right direction for a long time, and the process itself looked more like a chain of experiments than a clear plan. The first to take on the task was Hideki Kamiya, the director of Resident Evil 2. He was so carried away by the gothic style and dynamic action that the project gradually lost its connection with the familiar “Resident”. However, Capcom saw potential in these developments and, not wanting to lose them, singled them out into a separate game. This is how Devil May Cry was born – a completely new IP, which later became a cult. But this was only the first unsuccessful option. Then ideas about Leon infected with a virus, a maniac with a hook, and even a gloomy castle with ghosts flew into the trash. Some elements of these concepts still survived until the final version of Resident Evil 4, but it was Shinji Mikami who ultimately put together the project that we know and love.
Mikami understood perfectly well that the era of “classic” gameplay from the 90s was becoming a thing of the past, and the series desperately needed a fresh look. He decided to focus on action, adding dynamics, making Leon maneuverable and placing the camera over his shoulder. Of course, Resident Evil 4 was not the first game with such a perspective and a laser sight instead of a crosshair, but it was the one that popularized these mechanics, changing the genre forever. Despite the emphasis on gunfights, the game has not lost its terrifying atmosphere. Enemies here are not just numerous – they are fast, tenacious and smart. Some are able to attack from a distance, others – kill with one blow. And, as usual, there was always a shortage of ammunition. The constant balance between combat and saving resources turned each skirmish into a tense test.

But Mikami’s genius was manifested not only in gameplay solutions. Resident Evil 4 feels like a handcrafted game, with a precise rhythm and minimal repetition. There is virtually no backtracking, but there is an endless sense of novelty: each new location, enemy encounter or trap feels fresh and unexpected. And the bosses… forget about the same old thugs with giant health bars! In the fourth part, each boss is a unique challenge that requires new tactics. Here, you can’t just “pour” all your ammo into the enemy – you have to learn, analyze and adapt. The first attempts almost always end in death, but that’s where the excitement lies.
It was obvious that Capcom was adapting the updated “four” to modern mechanics borrowed from the latest parts and previous remakes. And if someone was hoping to get the same classic experience, but with updated graphics, then they will most likely be disappointed. Resident Evil 4 (2023) turned out to be more dynamic than Village, but at the same time it is still inferior to the original in terms of balance and sense of control. In the demo version, this was not so noticeable, but the deeper you go into the Spanish wilderness, the more you feel the imbalance between the hero and the enemies. It is important to note that I played the game on the standard difficulty – this is what Capcom recommends for those who are not familiar with the original. And I would argue with this statement: the difficulty of the remake is even higher in places than in the classic version. Perhaps, on hardcore, the game will turn into a real challenge – but, in the end, this is what it was designed for.
The main problem is that Leon is now noticeably less mobile: he takes a long time to reload (even with a pumped-up weapon), runs slower, and aiming seems clumsy. But the enemies are still as nimble, and in some scenes there are even more of them – after all, the developers no longer had to take into account the limitations of the old hardware.
Add to this the limited view from behind the camera – and you get a situation where backstabs become the norm. Pulling off the signature tactic from the original, when you first shoot the enemy in the face, then kick him, and then finish him off with a knife, is now more difficult: the game periodically does not count headshots, which means the enemy is not stunned. This is annoying. It is unclear whether this is due to hitboxes or this is the developers’ idea, but the fact remains a fact.
By the way, if you are playing on consoles (I played on Xbox Series X), I highly recommend adjusting the camera speed when aiming by at least 20% before starting – otherwise the controls will seem too sluggish.
As for the innovations, Leon was finally allowed to move while shooting, but you shouldn’t be happy about it – in this position, he moves at the speed of a lame turtle. It would be a great idea to add somersaults or dashes, like in the remake of the third part, but they are not here. But what is there is a clumsily implemented stealth. However, the benefit from it is minimal: there is no full-fledged stealth system, you can’t hug the walls, and there are no noise and visibility indicators. Most of the stealth moments are strictly scripted, so the space for improvisation is limited.
What problems prevent stealth from working fully:
Overall, Resident Evil 4 Remake is not just an updated version of the classic, but a different game with its own pros and cons. But if you were hoping for an accurate recreation of the original with new graphics, get ready for the unexpected.
Leon can now not only attack with a knife, but also parry enemy blows, and fight back if the enemy has grabbed him. This helps to avoid unnecessary damage, but the knife has one nuance – it breaks quickly. Fortunately, the merchant is always ready to repair it for a certain amount. In the same way, he will help restore the body armor, which the hero will get closer to the middle of the game. There are also spare knives, but they are less durable and cannot be repaired.
The developers have added more optional segments with backtracking. For example, that very episode with the boat now allows you to explore additional areas where you can find valuable loot. And the merchant regularly throws Leon side quests – for example, to catch a huge fish or get a golden egg. The game now has chests that can be opened with disposable keys, and special cabinets that require a rare reusable master key. Treasures are usually hidden inside, so after finding the right tool, it’s worth returning and picking up valuable loot.
Now the inventory has become more convenient – you can put weapons and healing sprays in the storage at save points. In addition, crafting has become even more flexible: you can create the right type of ammunition from gunpowder and other materials. As for gameplay changes, there are almost no QTEs in the game, but there are noticeably more puzzles, and they are noticeably more difficult than in the original.
Main changes:
Well, you can’t “rob caravans” here, but you can eat snakes. At least some joys of life.

Biggest Bitcoin (BTC USD) Long Liquidations Spotted On-Chain, What Next? – The Coin Republic

The crypto market is experiencing massive uncertainty, with Bitcoin (BTC USD) in the spotlight.
The leading crypto asset has seen one of its biggest long liquidations in history amid recent fluctuations.
While trade tension and inflation fear looms, some experts still believe the market may recover soon.
Investors are optimistic that the Bitcoin price may maintain its latest rebound, as President Trump paused the tariff hike for 90 days.
According to CryptoQuant, April 6 saw the largest Bitcoin (BTC USD) long liquidation since the current bull run began.
Around 7,500 BTC in long positions were liquidated in one day. This means many traders who expected Bitcoin’s price to rise were forced to close their positions at a loss.
The sudden price drop came from rising uncertainty in the global market. U.S. President Donald Trump’s new economic plans, especially regarding tariffs, triggered the liquidations.
These new policies increased market volatility and made tension grow among traders.
Meanwhile, analysts recently revealed that Bitcoin (BTC USD) price follows a “Trinity Bottom chart pattern.”
This has led traders to wonder if this means the asset price will go up again or fall sharply.
Even though market sentiment still seems unsure, market data shows that capital is flowing back into crypto aggressively.
At the close of trading on April 8, spot Bitcoin ETFs in the U.S. recorded their largest daily outflow since March 11.
The digital investment product lost $326.27 million. This selloff came as investors reacted to President Trump’s new tariffs before it was recently paused.
The biggest outflow came from BlackRock’s IBIT, which lost $252.9 million. Bitwise’s BITB also saw $21.7 million in outflows, while Ark 21Shares’ ARKB saw $19.9 million in withdrawals.
Other ETFs, including Grayscale’s GBTC, Franklin’s EZBC, and Invesco’s BTCO, also reported notable outflows.
This marked the fourth day Bitcoin ETFs posted net outflows, showing how weakened investor sentiment has become.
ETF trading volume dropped to $3 billion on the same day, compared to $6.6 billion on Monday.
Notably, this lower trading volume suggests that many traders are stepping back and waiting for more regulatory clarity.
The global market also felt the impact of the shift as the U.S. stock markets fell. The Dow declined by 0.84%, the S&P 500 dropped by 1.57%, and the Nasdaq slid by 2.15%.
Asian markets also had a mixed reaction. Japan’s Nikkei fell by nearly 4%, while China’s Shanghai Composite saw a 1.3% gain.
Even though the market was down earlier, the tides have shifted considerably. This shift is not new, as Bitcoin (BTC USD) often surprises investors by staging a rebound when least expected.
At the time of writing, Bitcoin’s price changed hands for $82,710.39 after soaring by 8.33% in 24 hours.
This came after a brief drop to $74,589.67 earlier in the week. Many are watching closely to see if the price will reverse this bullish trend or retest new highs.
Some investors are still hopeful the latter is the case. They believe the current selloff is temporary and that Bitcoin (BTC USD) could sustain its rally once the market becomes more stable.
For now, the volatility in the market is very high, and caution is advocated by investors.

Malaysian stocks rebound, broad relief rally adds back RM73 bil to market – The Edge Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR (April 10): Malaysian stocks staged a broad relief rally on Thursday after the US announced a pause to its reciprocal tariffs on all but one of its trading partners.
The FBM KLCI rose 63.71 points or 4.5% to 1,464.30 at the opening bell and climbed to as high as 1,473.36. The country’s benchmark equity index paused for midday break at 1,465.00, with sharp gains in all 30 component stocks, before closing at 1,463.13 — still up 62.54 points or 4.47%.
The strong rebound added some RM73.28 billion to the total market capitalisation of all the securities on Bursa Malaysia.
To Areca Capital Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Danny Wong Teck Meng, however, “today’s rebound could just be a temporary blip, with further downside potential due to ongoing uncertainty”.
“The downside risks include non-conclusive tariff negotiations, a potential US recession, and the possibility of a new round of tariffs that could target specific sectors like semiconductors,” said Tradeview Research senior analyst Tan Jia Hui.
Overnight, US President Donald Trump announced that he is pausing the planned increase in reciprocal tariffs for 90 days for all countries, except China. For now, all imports into the US will now be subjected to a baseline 10% duty while goods from China would be charged a 125% levy.
Other Asian markets also soared on the heels of Wall Street’s overnight rebound following the announcement. Taiwan’s Taiex and Japan’s Nikkei 225 were up around 9% while South Korea’s Kospi was 6.6% higher.
“Many institutional funds still hold fair cash reserves, providing a safety net against major downside unless a crisis occurs,” said Wong, who manages assets worth over RM5 billion at Areca Capital.
However, markets could remain volatile from news related to the US tariffs that appear far from resolved, he flagged.
UOB Kay Hian also warned its clients that investors will now be wary of potential future Trump tantrums amid lingering headwinds from slowing demand, margin compression, China sanctions and valuation discounts.
For now however, investors on Bursa Malaysia are breathing a sigh of relief. The ringgit also strengthened to 4.4698 against the US dollar, from 4.4963 on Wednesday.
Among KLCI component stocks, CIMB Group Holdings Bhd (KL:CIMB) was the biggest gainer, rising nearly 9%. Gamuda Bhd (KL:GAMUDA) and Nestlé (Malaysia) Bhd (KL:NESTLE) each climbed over 7%.
The gains extended all the way to smaller-cap stocks as the FBM ACE Index advanced 5.39%, and all sectors were in the positive territory. The Bursa Malaysia Technology Index surged 11.53% while the Energy Index was up 7.73% and the Construction Index was 6.18% higher.
Overall, market breadth was strongly positive as gainers outnumbered losers at 1075 to 186, while 261 counters were unchanged, after 4.42 billion shares worth RM3.81 billion changed hands.

NFF signs N400 million sponsorship deal with Premier Lotto (Baba Ijebu) – Nairametrics

The Nigeria Football Federation has signed a sponsorship deal with Premier Lotto (Baba Ijebu) worth N400 million.
The President of the NFF, Amaju Pinnick announced this yesterday in a chat with Arise TV.
Speaking moments before the deal during his interview, Pinnick said, “A lot of positives are coming to the Nigerian football federation, and we are ready to get it. We are going for the signing, and we are very grateful to the chairman of Premier Lotto, Kensington Adebutu. He has been very supportive of the Nigerian football federation.
“Today, we are going to be signing a sponsorship deal with them that’s about N400 million for the next three years initial and then renewable. It’s something huge.
“At the end of my tenure, I want to see Nigerian football 100 per cent self-funding without involving government; of course, we thank the government for the past support.”
The sponsorship agreement to be signed with the Premier Lotto would initially last for three years and then renewable for another year.
Pinnick also hinted at another sponsorship agreement with a bank which will be disclosed on the 18th of September. However, the contract will be strictly player based.
“With the signing of Baba Ijebu today, I believe we are at 90-92% of self-funding. And the big one is coming on the 18th of this month. If everything goes well, we will be signing another mega-contract with one of the best massive banks, but that one is strictly player-based: whereby players will have comprehensive insurance once they don the Nigerian jersey,” he said.
