-Increasing rain this weekend
-1 to 3" rain totals thru Sunday
-Strong storms Sunday
FORECAST:
A rather typical winter afternoon for us today. Lots of clouds and passing showers (nothing frozen, but it certainly was cool enough for most outside today) as most of us have spent the day back into the lower to middle 40s. These temperatures will actually rise as we head through the evening hours of tonight, but if you're heading outside, you'll still want the jackets as the rain showers will continue to dot the landscape as we head through the evening. Middle 40s around 7PM will climb to the upper 40s and even nearing 50 as we get closer to midnight.
Overnight – temperatures keep rising. Probably in the middle 50s by first light on Sunday morning with some passing rain showers continuing.
Sunday is a rather interesting afternoon. We will be watching a cold front coming into the area by around mid-morning. It'll cross the area between about 10A-4PM. Things that we know are that the day will be rather wet with some heavier downpours coming through as the main front passes, and even some gusty winds in some of the stronger cells imbedded within the line that will cross through. What we will be watching for will be how warm we get prior to the fronts passage along with how much sunshine we see. Both of these things will go a long way in seeing how much stronger storms we see with the main line passes through. More sun/warmer temperatures = higher stronger storm potential, less sun/cooler temperatures = lower strong storm potential. Right now – I think the higher chances of strong storms would be along and south of the Staunton River. I don't think the chances are too high, but they are not zero, just have the ABC13 Weather App handy tomorrow should warnings be issued. Main threats with storms tomorrow (should they turn strong) would be gusty winds and heavier rain; however, the chance of an isolated quick spin up is there, but VERY low. Strong storm chances fall rapidly once the we get to Sunday evening.
Monday is a drier day and it's also the day we start to cool the temperatures down. Another wet weather maker arrives for Tuesday. No severe weather expected here as we will be too cool; however, this may hinder some New Years Eve plans. Right now – cautiously optimistic we can get all of the wet weather out of here by around midnight. A few flurries are possible on Wednesday and Friday of next week as we'll be doing good to get out of the 40s. Next weekend we may be doing good to get back to 40 as the colder air really settles in to start the new year.
