LEXINGTON, Neb. (KNOP) – A 16-year-old boy who fell while “car surfing” in Lexington died from his injuries on Monday, according to police.
Lexington Police officers were dispatched Sunday at 7:30 p.m. to the area near Hoover Street and Cherokee Road for an injured teenage boy lying in the road.
Arriving officers rendered emergency aid to the teen until Lexington Rescue personnel arrived and transported him to Lexington Regional Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The teen was later flown to Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney where he succumbed to his injuries.
During the investigation, Lexington Police officers and investigators learned that the victim, along with two other teens, had been “car surfing”.
The victim was reportedly lying on the hood of a moving vehicle while the 14-year-old driver and 13-year-old passenger were inside of it. Police said the driver believed a vehicle was backing out of their driveway and they braked, causing the victim to fall and hit his head.
The names of all the teens involved are being withheld and the investigation is ongoing.
The Lexington Police Department was assisted on scene by the Lexington Rescue Unit and the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office.
