This latest breach was through Zendesk, a customer service platform that the organization uses.
October 21, 2024
Just a few days after the Internet Archive told the public it was getting back on its feet after a data breach and a barrage of distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks forced it to go offline, the digital library website is once again in trouble.
Unknown bad actors have allegedly claimed access tokens to the archive's Zendesk implementation, using them to send a mass email on Oct. 20 to those who tried to interact with the archive's platform.
"Internet Archive did not secure its authentication tokens, which enabled unauthorized access to their Zendesk instance," a Zendesk spokesperson told Dark Reading. "It’s important to note that there is no evidence this was a Zendesk issue and that Zendesk did not experience a compromise of its platform. We have since worked together with Internet Archive to secure their account."
The hacker's email to archive users began as follows:
"It's dispiriting to see that even after being made aware of the breach two weeks ago, IA has still not done the due diligence of rotating many of the API keys that were exposed in their GitLab secrets," the hacker stated. “As demonstrated by this message, this includes a Zendesk token with perm[ission]s to access 800K+ support tickets sent to [email protected] since 2018."
The email continued, "Whether you were trying to ask a general question or requesting the removal of your site from the Wayback Machine — your data is now in the hands of some random guy. If not me, it'd be someone else."
Though it can’t be said for certain, Chris Hickman, chief security officer (CSO) of Keyfactor, said the hacker may not have serious malicious intent, but instead wants to prove a point: that those in charge of the Internet Archive must be more proactive in protecting its network from those who would do much worse.
"This is a security oversight as tokens that are not rotated regularly have longer lifespans, increasing the window of opportunity for attackers to steal and misuse them," Hickman wrote in an emailed statement to Dark Reading. "If a token is not rotated correctly, it might expire, leading to authentication failures for legitimate users. If a malicious actor obtains an unrotated token, they could use it to gain unauthorized access to systems or services, leading to service disruptions and customer frustration, damaging a company's reputation and bottom line."
The organization hasn't made any public comments regarding the latest breach, but it did request donations last week to help support its endeavors of promoting open access to knowledge resources.

Boney Kapoor admits he ‘gets attracted to females’, but Sridevi will always be the love of his life: ‘Till my dying day…’ – The Indian Express

Film producer Boney Kapoor opened up about the deep love that he has for his late wife, Sridevi, who passed away in 2018. He said that he will always love her, even if he feels an attraction towards other women. In an interview, Boney also spoke about the seven-year itch, and said that couples reveal their true selves to each other only a few years into their relationship. Sridevi and Boney Kapoor tied the knot in 1996; he proposed to her when he was already married with two kids, leading to complications.
In an interview with ABP Live, he said, “We were inseparable. I was in love with her, I am in love with her, and I will be in love with her till my dying day… When the most sought-after beauty, when the most sought-after personality becomes convinced to spend the rest of her life with you, what greater joy could there be? I never cheated on her, I never had to look here or there. She was my everything.”
Also read – Sridevi didn’t speak to Boney Kapoor for six months after he proposed: ‘You’re married with two kids, how can you talk to me like this?’
Boney continued, “Even today, I may have (female) friends, I may get attracted to females around me, but as far as she’s concerned, the passion and love will never go away.” Boney spoke about how relationships evolve over time, and how couples lower any guards they might have initially had some years into their marriage. He said, “Opposites attract. But temperamentally opposite people get closer day by day.”
He continued, “You learn so many things about your partner over the journey. You learn to become careful about not doing things they don’t like. Both sides grow to understand each other. I’m a north Indian Punjabi, Sri was from the south… Initially, everything is flowery; you want to do anything for her. But especially after seven years, you truly get to know your partner; their likes and dislikes. They feel that they have the freedom to truly express themselves. For the first seven years, they just bear everything, but after seven years, especially after the kids are older and the women realise they have more power over you, then they reveal their true feelings.”
Sridevi and Boney have two daughters, actors Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor. Boney has two children from his first marriage to the late Mona Shourie – Arjun Kapoor and Anshula Kapoor.

Glenn Close is the best thing about 'The Deliverance' – The Edwardsville Intelligencer

Movies With Mary
“The Deliverance” is a horror movie based on a true story that took place in Gary, Indiana. Glenn Close, who has been nominated for eight Academy Awards, is one of the great actresses of our times, and has not received the accolades as she deserves, stars in “Deliverance.”
Unfortunately, I don’t think she will receive any honors for this movie either, even though she is the best thing in this film.
Ebony and her three children and her mother, Alberta, experience strange incidents in their Gary, Indiana, home that grow progressively worse. Ebony’s children begin levitating, grow violent, and begin speaking in deep growls with no recollection afterward. Cynthia Henry, a case worker with the Department of Child Services, thinks that Ebony is abusing her children because they are covered in bruises. Reverend Bernice James, a local minister, took the supernatural occurrences seriously because a woman whose family lived in the house before murdered her family in the house.  The women witnessed many of the incidents, including one in which Ebony’s 9-year-old son broke heavy leather bindings walked backwards up a wall.

Andra Day stars as Ebony. Anthony B. Jenkins, Caleb McLaughlin and Demi Singleton are Ebony’s three children Andre, Nate and Shante.
Academy Award nominee Glenn Close is Ebony’ slutty mother, Alberta, who is suffering from cancer.  The family is dysfunctional to say the least.   Mo’Nique is the social worker, Cynthia Henry. Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor is Reverend Bernice James.
I thought the only problems with the acting could be attributed to the script. The script was written by Divid Coggeshall and Elijah Byrum. I had trouble following where the script was going several times. The grandmother had become religious but couldn’t save her grandchildren and the mother wouldn’t let the kids go to church with her mother, which made no sense. Even though this was based on a true story, it needed to make sense.
Two-time Academy Award nominee Lee Daniels directed. Daniels is usually a better director than this film. I think he should have had another re-write on the script.

I think “The Deliverance” is a little bit like “The Exorcist,” which was also based on a true story that took place in St. Louis, but is not as good.
At the end of the film, they showed pictures of the real people and the real house that the story was based on. I think it would have been a better film if they would have called it “fiction based on true events” and left it at that.
Currently, “The Deliverance” is playing on Netflix.  I give it 2 1/2 stars.

Apple wants to step in to Google’s antitrust case, eyes to protect Safari browser deal – Digit

Google is in major legal trouble with the US government as it is currently facing an antitrust trial. Now, Apple has decided to support Google and requested to participate in the upcoming U.S. antitrust trial against Google. The reason why Apple has decided to become a part of the situation is because the case has significant financial stakes tied to Apple’s revenue-sharing agreement with the search giant. For those unaware, Google is the default search engine on Apple’s Safari browser.
If reports are to be believed, Apple earned around $20 billion in 2022 alone from the arrangement. Apple filed the court documents in Washington on Monday and said that it cannot depend on Google to defend the agreement. It spoke about the trial’s potential to disrupt Google’s core business operations.
In the same documents, the Cupertino-based tech giant said that it has no plans to develop its own search engine, regardless of the trial’s outcome. This indirectly means that Apple relies heavily on its partnership with Google.
The trial will take place in April 2025. It is a part of the U.S. Department of Justice’s landmark case against Google. The case is aimed at addressing alleged monopolistic practices that Google undertakes in online searches. Prosecutors argue that Google’s dominance in the space kills the competition and have suggested measures such as the sale of its Chrome browser or even its Android operating system to restore fairness in the market.
Now, Apple plans to call witnesses during the trial to protect its interests, stating that Google is now focused on defending itself against broader calls to break up its business units. “Google can no longer adequately represent Apple’s interests,” Apple noted in its filing.

Russia Implements Seasonal Crypto Mining Restrictions in Key Regions for 6 Years – Crypto News Flash

The Russian government has approved crypto mining restrictions in a list of regions and territories. According to the local news agency TASS, crypto mining will remain restricted in 10 regions from January 1, 2025, to March 15, 2031.
These restrictions align with Russia’s crypto mining regulations, which the president signed in August and October 2024.
The 10 regions to see a complete ban for six years include Donetsk. Lugansk People’s Republics, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Chechnya, North Ossetia, Ingushetia, Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Cherkessia, and Dagestan.
According to the report, the ban will impact individual crypto mining and mining pool operations. Besides these restrictions, Russia will introduce a seasonal ban in some regions during peak energy consumption periods. The regions that experience these temporary restrictions during winter include certain areas of Irkutsk, Buryatia, and Zabaikalsky.
These seasonal restrictions will apply in 2025 from January 1 to March 15. In the following years, it will extend to a longer period, from November 15 to March 15.
Russia’s Cabinet of Ministers said the list of regions and territories is subject to change in response to the government’s findings on electric power development challenges. Such limitations are intended to preserve the equilibrium of energy use while accounting for industry demands.
The latest mining restrictions in Russia are an improved version of an earlier one proposed by the government in November. Initially, lawmakers intended to ban crypto mining in 13 regions, including Irkutsk, Russia’s key mining region.
Major Russian mining companies like BitRiver rely on cheap electricity in  Irkutsk. Local sources revealed that the Irkutsk region hosts the first and largest data center by BitRiver, which was launched in 2019 in Bratsk.
CNF reported in October that Russia imposed stricter control over crypto mining, allowing only registered entities to mine. This new legislation minimizes illicit behavior, particularly money laundering and terrorist financing.
Additionally, these guidelines required miners to report their revenue and digital currency holdings to Rosfinmonitoring, Russia’s financial monitoring body.
Russia legalized crypto mining in November 2024. However, individuals and businesses must ensure that information about the assets received and the addresses of crypto wallets are provided to the Federal Tax Service (FTS).
The FTS launched a service for entering data into the register of miners on November 1, which is mandatory for individual entrepreneurs and legal entities. Individuals can receive digital currency within 6 thousand kWh per month.
Following crypto mining legalization in Russia, the Federation Council passed a bill to tax mining activities, as disclosed in a CNF update. The bill specifies that income from mining activities will be taxed based on its market value at receipt. Furthermore, the legislation mandates crypto-mining infrastructure operators to report client information to tax authorities.
