CITY VIEW, Texas (KAUZ) – On Dec. 29, the City View community gathered at the City View High School gym to celebrate the life of Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Heath Aldrich. Aldrich passed away on the morning of Dec. 26 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Donations were accepted at the celebration and will go towards a scholarship fund created in Aldrich’s name.
The 40-year-old father, husband and coach graduated from City View in 2003. He returned in 2019 to begin his coaching career on the basketball court. Two years ago, he took the reigns of the football team and led the Mustangs to 16 wins. His tenure as head coach included the first playoff victories in school history.
His wife, Mikel Aldrich, spoke at the celebration of her husband’s life and encouraged those who attended to not be sad for her family.
“I just want you to know that Heath is healed, and he’s up there in heaven. He is happier than if we just beat Gunter and we’re almost going to state. Please don’t be sad for us. We aren’t sad, we were in shackles for a year. God tried to take Heath home so many times but that man’s stubborn,” Mikel said.
Mikel added that the family is excited that Heath is in heaven and that they’re going to be okay.
“I hope you know that you shouldn’t be sad. You should be so happy because we are so happy that Heath is in heaven. I told him to go up there and get us a good house, and to get Blake a unicorn, and to get Harlan a dinosaur and no freaking goats. It’s going to be okay, we are going to be okay. Hug my neck don’t tell me you’re sorry for me, tell me that you’re happy for us.
Coach Aldrich had the revelation during his battle with cancer that no matter what we face in life, and no matter the outcome “we win” because of the victory we have in Christ.
