At the age of 40 — and after 5 years in retirement — Lindsay Vonn returned to the racecourse on Saturday, Dec. 21, at the Stifel St. Moritz World Cup. The ski racing champion placed 14th, crossing the finish line just 1.18 seconds behind Austrian winner Cornelia Hütter (32). Vonn said she raced conservatively but seemed pleased with her performance.
“This was the perfect start,” Vonn told AP News. “Today, I really needed to get to the finish. I wanted to have a solid result. And that’s exactly what I did.”
Vonn previously held the record for the most World Cup wins of any female alpine skier, with 82 to her career. Her record has only been surpassed by one other female racer, Mikaela Shiffrin, who now holds 99. Vonn told France24 last week that she intends to return to her previous level of competitive skiing, and she hopes to make the U.S. Olympic Ski Team for the 2024 Cortina Winter Olympic Games.
“Life is too short to sit on the sidelines,” she wrote in an Instagram post about coming out of retirement.
Saturday’s Super-G Race was held on St. Moritz’s Corviglia course. Vonn’s finishing time was less than a second away from earning her a place on the podium, which was shared by heavyweight competitors Cornelia Hütter (32), Lara Gut-Behrami (33), and Sofia Goggia (32). Vonn was scheduled to race again on Sunday, but poor weather and windy conditions canceled the race.
Vonn’s next chance to race in a World Cup event and earn FIS points toward making the Olympic Ski team will be in January in St. Anton, Austria.
Over her career, Vonn won one Olympic gold medal, two bronze medals, and 20 World Cup titles, making the FIS Stifel World Cup podium over 130 times. However, after sustaining multiple injuries, Vonn left the sport in 2019 at the age of 35.
In 2024, she got a titanium knee replacement. Ten weeks later, she was skiing again, training at Copper Mountain, Colo., and reportedly pain-free. Just 8 months past her surgery, Vonn made her breakout debut on the world stage in St. Moritz.
With her Olympic and World Cup racing record, Vonn more than meets the requirements for a Wild Card entry into the 2024 Cortina Winter Olympic Games. All she needs are the FIS points to qualify, which she is earning through the Stifel FIS World Cup and other qualifying races.
Earlier this month, she competed in two super-G events in a lower-level competition at Copper Mountain. She finished 19th and 24th in those races.
“I know my way back to a competitive level might take a race or two, but I certainly intend on getting back to where I was before,” she told France24.
Vonn plans to race again at the Stifel FIS St. Anton World Cup in Austria on Jan. 11-12. The event will feature both downhill and Super-G races. Again, she will be racing against some of the most elite athletes currently competing in the sport. You will be able to watch the race live and on-demand on skiandsnowboard.live.
Regardless of how Vonn performs in January, people were excited to see her back on the racecourse this past weekend.
“To have her back on the world stage is just fantastic,” Sophie Goldschmidt, president and CEO of U.S. Ski and Snowboard, told AP News. “Just the attention she’s bringing to the sport and the role model she is — it’s a big day.”
GearJunkie sat down with Mikaela Shiffrin during the Stifel Birds of Prey World Cup ski race, at her home to talk about gear. We ended up talking about a lot more. Read more…

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 release date confirmed — Latest KCD2 news – RadioTimes

Kingdom Come is coming back for more.
The popularity of large-scale RPGs shows no signs of slowing down as 2025 moves into view.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) remains one of the most anticipated RPGs on its way to PC and consoles. The sequel to Kingdom Come: Deliverance promises plenty of action alongside some rich storytelling.
With fans patiently waiting to get their hands on the game and reunite with Henry, all eyes are turning towards the release date.
When exactly is KCD2 launching? Keep on reading for everything there is to know!
The Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 release date is 4th February 2025, the developers have now confirmed.
The game was previously announced for 2024 before being pushed back until 11th February. Now Warhorse Studios has moved the date a week forward which is great news.
February has become a popular time to launch games, though, with Hogwarts Legacy last year and Elden Ring the year before that. And this year, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was in that slot.
KCD2 will join a well-attended February club when it launches, then!
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is available to pre-order for PlayStation and Xbox platforms.
Those planning to play on Microsoft’s or Sony’s consoles can purchase the game ahead of its launch now.
For PC players, both Steam and Epic Games Store have options to add the game to a wishlist, but no option to pre-order just yet.
When a release date is confirmed by Warhorse Studios, there’s a high chance the PC storefronts will open pre-orders then.
There’s no news on whether pre-ordering will provide players with any bonuses or exclusive content. When an announcement is made, we’ll update the page as soon as we can.
The Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is releasing on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
It’s unclear if Warhorse Studios has plans to release the game on the Nintendo Switch. The developer did release the original Kingdom Come: Deliverance on the console, giving fans some hope they can take the RPG on the go.
If there are any developments surrounding a Switch release of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, we will share the latest information as soon as it appears.

Based on what’s been announced, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 players will experience the majority of the story from a first-person perspective with third-person cutscenes scattered throughout.
While the game does contain several elements typical of an RPG, such as interactive NPCs and skill trees, there are no classes or character creation options.
The story is a direct sequel from Kingdom Come: Deliverance, with the main narrative of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 focusing on the exploits of Henry of Skalitz. Players will play as a skilled soldier battling in a war against Sigismund the Red Fox.
Players have plenty of options when it comes to choosing how they play and progress through the main narrative. Some players may opt for the life of a thief, utilising pickpocketing to generate income at the risk of being caught by the authorities.
Others may choose the life of a knight, using charm and assisting others along their journey.
Regardless of choice, players will have an extensive range of options to choose how they shape their version of Henry, the main protagonist of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
Yes, alongside the official announcement trailer, there was an official game reveal trailer that released in April.
In the game reveal, Warhorse Studios shares more details surrounding what players can expect from Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, including how they can mould Henry into a unique character.
The trailer also showcases short snippets of gameplay, demonstrating action-packed battles from a first-person perspective and the huge variety of environments that players can explore on their journey.

What are the best Christmas movies? Here are our favorite 20 ranked – Pocono Record

Santa Claus is coming to town, but you still have a few days to seek out all sorts of holiday movie fare.
There are the classics, naturally, like Macaulay Culkin taking on dimwitted crooks in the beloved “Home Alone” or Bill Murray’s self-centered TV executive learning a thing or several about the meaning of Christmas in “Scrooged,” a take on Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.” Or maybe you want more modern options, like the Dwayne Johnson/Chris Evans action flick “Red One” or Netflix’s saucy new double feature, “Hot Frosty” and “The Merry Gentlemen.”
In honor of the holiday season, let’s rank the 20 best Christmas movies ever.
Culkin is unfailingly precocious, and watching an 8-year-old foil a pair of clueless adult burglars in inventive fashion is fine and all. What’s often forgotten amid the kiddie shenanigans, however, is what the film has to say about the importance of family.
Set in Wichita, Kansas, on Christmas Eve, this twisty, cool and funny film noir casts John Cusack as a mob lawyer who steals $2 million from his boss (Randy Quaid) and has issues hightailing it out of town because of bad weather.
The inclusive and pleasantly clever romantic comedy stars Kristen Stewart and Mackenzie Davis as a lesbian couple whose relationship is tested at a family get-together by deep secrets, conservative parents and competitive siblings.
Is this a Halloween movie? Sure. And is it a yuletide flick, too? You bet! Tim Burton puts his insane spin on a holiday mashup where Jack Skellington, the big man in Halloween Town, decides to take over the various aspects of Christmas Town – and arrange the abduction of Santa – until he realizes it wasn’t the greatest idea.
By itself, it’s one of the best buddy-cop action pictures, forcing together Danny Glover’s aging Roger Murtaugh and Mel Gibson’s loose cannon Martin Riggs. The seasonal stuff just makes it all the better, including a shootout at a Christmas tree lot and Riggs, struggling with suicidal thoughts, ultimately finding a family with whom to share a holiday dinner.
This war drama snagged an Oscar nomination for best foreign-language film and explores the victory of humanity over brutality as it chronicles the real-life story of the Christmas truce of 1914 when the World War I battlefield welcomed carols instead of carnage.
Two Bing Crosby musicals utilized the song “White Christmas”: Let’s leave off 1942’s “Holiday Inn” (which has a cringe-inducing blackface sequence) and instead include Crosby teaming up with Danny Kaye as crooning World War II GIs who attempt to save their old commanding officer’s country inn with the help of a sister act (Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen).
The holiday tale doubles as a good entry into horror for youngsters, with a small town beset by freaky gremlins because teenagers can’t follow simple instructions. Also: Baby Yoda can only try to be on the cuteness level of little Mogwai Gizmo in a Santa hat.
The basis for the Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan romantic comedy “You’ve Got Mail” is this Hungarian holiday jam featuring Jimmy Stewart and Margaret Sullavan as bickering co-workers at a Budapest leather goods store who’ve unknowingly fallen in love with each other through anonymous letters.
Full disclosure: I despised this movie as a kid who wasn’t into BB guns or leg lamps. As an adult, though, the comedy resonates more as an ode to the exhaustive nature of being a parent around the holidays and how everybody’s just trying to get by at the holidays, even the tired mall Santa.
Among the various “traditional” versions of the Charles Dickens classic – from “The Muppet Christmas Carol” to the excellent George C. Scott TV movie – this one cuts right to the dark tones of the original text, with Scrooge (Alastair Sim) living through an insightful horror film to come out the other side as a better man.
The romantic dramedy stars Jack Lemmon as a nebbish office drone known for lending out his place for bosses to take their mistresses. He puts the focus back on himself when he starts to fall hard for an elevator girl (Shirley MacLaine), whom the big boss (Fred MacMurray) secretly takes to the love den on Christmas Eve.
Alexander Payne’s 1970s-set throwback is a snarky yet warmhearted reminder of the holiday spirit. Paul Giamatti stars as a curmudgeonly teacher stuck at school for winter break who befriends and bonds with a rebellious student (newcomer Dominic Sessa) and a grieving head cook (Da’Vine Joy Randolph, who won an Oscar for the role).
Heck yeah, this is a Christmas movie, just in case there was any doubt. And sorry, Santa, no one squeezes through tight spaces in a building to get the job done – in the case of this classic action film, thwarting terrorists and saving his estranged wife – better than Bruce Willis’ iconic John McClane.
Anybody who’s ever tried entirely too hard during the holidays can empathize with Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) and his hilarious battles to decorate his house, deal with wacko relatives – we all have our own Cousin Eddie (Randy Quaid) – and have the merriest Christmas imaginable, with himself often acting as his greatest foe.
If you can withstand the gratuitous hokeyness, there’s an intriguing “Law & Order” episode to be had here when Kris Kringle himself (Edmund Gwenn) does a little too good of a job replacing a drunk Macy’s Parade Santa and gets put on trial for mental instability when he insists he’s the real deal.
Often imitated, never duplicated. Intertwining tales of love featuring Brits and others conjure all sorts of holiday emotions – some happy, other melancholy – and are entirely manipulative. But watching a little boy race through Heathrow to find his crush or seeing Andrew Lincoln’s silent ode to Keira Knightley, you’re too busy being bombarded by feels to care.
Will Ferrell has one of his best roles as a naive overgrown elf who finds out he’s actually human – with the late James Caan as his grumpy biological dad – and the high jinks that follow when he’s introduced to “civilization” are filled with heart, humor and childlike wonder.
The “Citizen Kane” of Christmas films, though in this case, everyone has seen Jimmy Stewart’s heavenly journey as George Bailey. Akin to the Scrooge model in its focus on the significance of second chances, with a man being shown how bad life would have been if he had not been born, this thing will straight up pull the Christmas spirit kicking and screaming out of you.
Born out of ’80s greed though timeless in its relevancy, “Scrooged” is a pitch-perfect blend of slapstick and black humor, love and loss, life and death that has no business being as astounding as it is. It’s superbly cast, from Bill Murray’s modern Scrooge-y Frank Cross to Carol Kane’s adorably sadistic fairy. And if you’re not welling up by the time “Put a Little Love in Your Heart” kicks in, you might be visited by three ghosts yourself.
