Unlike typical zombie shooters, Silent North aims to put storytelling front and center. “Silent North is about open-ended survival,” says Scott Albright, Combat Waffle’s CEO and founder. “It’s a slow-burning sandbox where anything can happen—friendships, betrayals, or adventures emerging organically from a vast, persistent world.”
This marks a deliberate shift from Combat Waffle’s previous game, Ghosts of Tabor, which focused on tactical combat and high-stakes raid missions. While Albright acknowledges there are many flavors of survival games out there, he points to one major gap in the market: “The survival genre is so nuanced, but there’s one thing that tends to permeate every sub-genre: a total lack of immersive, VR ways to experience them. We’re working on changing that.”
Silent North throws you into a harsh Alpine landscape where resources are scarce and the infected roam freely. You’ll need to manage basic needs like food, water, and warmth while exploring treacherous mountain regions. The game demands constant vigilance — whether you’re scrounging through abandoned villages for weapons and supplies or engaging in firefights with other survivors.
You’ll face threats from both the infected and other human players. While forming alliances might boost your survival chances, trust is a luxury you can’t afford. The day-night cycle adds another tactical layer: during daylight hours, you can spot infected from a distance, while darkness provides cover for stealthy approaches. Success depends on adapting your strategy to match the time of day.
