Breeders' Cup Classic recap: City of Troy fails to feature – Irish Mirror

It was not to be for City of Troy and Aidan O'Brien in the Breeders' Cup Classic on Saturday evening with the legendary trainer being forced to wait at least another year to win the prestigious race.
O'Brien has won everything there is to win in Flat Racing but the Breeders' Cup Classic is the one race that has eluded him.
And with Ryan Moore riding City Of Troy, many felt that this would be the year.
Backed into favourite this side of the Atlantic Ocean, City Of Troy and Moore never got going, starting off the race towards the rear.
Moore desperately tried to get his ride towards the front but had left too much of a gap.
Sierra Leone ended up running out the winner, stretching away towards the end.
Sierra Leone priced at 17/2 raced to victory. Aidan O'Brien will have to wait to win this race, City Of Troy was at the rear for most of the race

The race is scheduled to start at 9.41pm (Irish time) on Saturday 2 November and will be shown live on Virgin Media Three,ITV4, Sky Sports Racing, and Racing TV.

It has been dubbed a 'date with destiny' in some quarters as City of Troy has been backed into favorite.
